Your best side by side race?

Bio, looks like you're a fan of yellow. Here's my runner, from the staging lanes of riverside raceway in the late eighties.

Yes. Started when I was 9 years old, yellow and black Schwinn Super Sport 10 speed bicycle. 71 Charger R/T, 2006 Route 66 PT Cruiser only available in Solar Yellow, 2005 Hummer H2, 2011 Harley-Davidson V-Rod Muscle, 2006 Screamin' Eagle V-Rod (wife's) and 1970 Roadrunner in Lemon Twist!

This was great side by side race, but what is really something are the reaction times plus the weather was extremely foggy, you couldn't see the finish line from the starting line.

I like close races... sometimes you win and sometimes you lose

Here’s one of my favorite races, up against my brother at the Nats a few years ago. I’m in the Cuda, and of course his big block power won that day, but I got a new secret weapon under the hood, and I’m ready for a rematch

But here is my all time favorite side by side. The Kendal camper is my grandpas, and although it was all in fun, that $1 in prize money meant the world to these 2 fierce competitors!

Lost a NSS/E Super Stock race at St. Louis by 1 10,000 of a second. It was the final round. Could have won a nice leather jacket.
Didn't matter because it was fun !!

Doug, that is an amazing time slip. Ive never seen that much info on a slip before. Or, is that a computer program doing calculations from the slip?

My best side by side was about two years ago when I ran a friends son in his nice Olds race car. We left together as it was a time shot and he pulled a good fender on me real fast but as I wound out first I pulled up on him and pulled away some in second and more in third as I ran 10.84 @ 123.84 to his 10.97 @ 121. He actually had a better 60 ft then me as his was a 1.48 to my 1.52
But my most fun race was around 1978 when I had my 340 Dart running low 12's and a local guy put a bigblock Chevy in a Vega wagon and thought he could blow my doors off. Well as luck had it he went to the track with it the same day I did and we got to race each other in a time run. I ran like a 12.22 in my Dart and ate him alive as his bigblock Vega ran a 13.20. He did not have much to say after that !! Ron

You want that jacket to this day. ADMIT IT! Lol.

I had one bad win that I still think about. I was in the 11 sec bracket. Running against a 14 sec car with a young kid. For some reason I got it into my head. "Let's deep stage him since I have the time. And see if that distracts him?" So I pull in. While he was pulling in I moved up and tuned my top light out. It distracted him alright. Nearly a 2 Second reaction time. I caught him before 1/2 track and pedaled to an easy victory. His gang was not happy with me. And I of course said it was an accident. But it wasn't. It's funny how my one and only somewhat unsportsman like incident still haunts me. Had it been a bigger money event. Against a more serious foe? Too bad. But it wasn't.

On the way to $20K race in Michigan we stopped at at a little 1/8 mile track in Indiana that was paying $1000 to win on Friday nite. Cars from all over the country were there. My Arrow was running great. Dead nuts consisitent. Semi final was against Randy Folk, top gun from Byron. I had lane choice so I put him in the opposite lane he had been running. He had the slower dial. I caught him early in 3rd gear. As we got to the line, I let the nose drop and took him by a foot or two.
Beat another Byron top gun in the final for the $1k win.
Failed terribly in Michigan. But Friday in Indiana paid for the trip.

In my 66 Coronet....Closest race for me...Semi Final. I ran a 10.1700 on my 10.17 dial. My opponent ran a 11.599 on his 11.60 dial.
I have a picture of the time slip but for some reason it wouldn't load.

Mine was back in 1989 at what was called our Gary's Picnic event, basically a heads up anything goes race with £1000 for the winner which was held once a year and made famous by the swedes who came over and won most times with their super fast machines.

Anyhow at the time I was running my 440 '69 Cuda big tyre car with N20, was a stock 440-6 motor apart from a big sft. So I came up against my mate who did the back half on the car with his Opel Manta running 427BBC power + N20, an 8 sec runner but on that night he was chasing a strange on/off misfire, long story, I took the win by .0000 whatever and saw him come by me at the stripe around 30mph faster, I upped the jets to go in the 10's, apparentyl I was told the crowd went mad at that, underdog always supported, that got the swedes a bit worried as my next round opponent came over and asked what I was running, of course I said 9.0's to put some fear into him, I went out to him but will never forget that race and the incredible nights racing that was.

Wish I could find the time slip……couple years ago I had a 2008 corvette Z06. I wanted to just make 1 run with it just to see what it would do. I line up and look to the left and they staged a McClaren in the left lane. I had talked with that guy earlier. He left late and I beat him on ET. Think I had 121 around 11.90 he was 130 mph. He came up to me after and kept saying can’t believe he got beat by a corvette. I hated that corvette except for that night.
