67 coronet gas tank grommet, need leverage

Ok, putting the fuel hoses, vent hoses and I’ve run into the unexpected. The damn filler pipe grommet is so f-ing tight. Any tips? I’ve lubed it and cannot get enough downforce to get it in there. (67) is a lot tougher than the 68s

Put in tank first maybe?

try boiling some water, drop the grommet it. It will soften it up and make it a lot easier for the filler pipe install. Use some type of lube to.

I've done it a few times and had no problems

So, even warming it up and using both hands at a perfect angle took all of my strength to get the bastard in there….after dropping the tank. Geese

.....just a side note.....make sure you crimp the vapor line on the tank side prior to installation. You can feed the smaller vent line into the elbow after you install it.....but there is zero space to crimp later.
