Uh ... you don't need to be near the ocean to have sandy beaches! In fact, if you dug a pond in my back yard, you'd have a pure white sandy beach, and I'm probably a good 700 miles from the nearest ocean!!

Uhhh - no, you don't, but it helps to have sandy soil I reckon.
Actually, part of the state does have sandy loam soils, but where KD was is mostly clay, loam and shales

Years ago I noticed that the radio signal strength at work seemed to get weak after 10:00. Later, I learned that radio stations boost their signal during "drive time" and then reduce it during off peak times.

Lately I have seen several gas stations change over to the two tier price schedule.
One price for cash, a higher price for debit or credit. It used to be cash/debit at one price and credit was the only higher one.
This sucks.
Yeah, I carry cash but who the hell knows EXACTLY how much gas that they need to fill up? You're stuck either stopping short of being full or making another trip inside to get your change. Are they just trying to get more in the store to buy stuff OR do they see the debit exchange as a way to make more money?

At a taco joint I like, they are NOW charging an additional 3.99% for NON cash transactions. Why? Did the banks suddenly start squeezing the vendors? I thought that electronic transfers cost them LESS to process than cash.

Credit card companies charge a transaction fee. American Express is the highest. I always pull out one of my American Express cards when I go somewhere and I get treated badly.

During a "discussion" early in our marriage my wife said I'm 'not great' at communicating. I said "sure I am....just not at 'communicating' what YOU think I should be saying...." maybe the word 'controlling' got tossed in there...yeah let's just say she was none too pleased with that conversation.
My observation that day was, sometimes it's okay to let them win.

They do cut power at night, but not because of listenership or drive time. It’s because radio waves propagate further off of the atmosphere at night, so they do it to reduce interference to other stations that are on the same frequency but many miles away.

FCC requires it for AM stations here at dusk, unless you're one of a select few stations with special permit.
At dawn, they can fire it up again....
In fact, many stations just simply signed off at dusk in olden days and back on at dawn.

And then you had the folks that would set up just over the border in Mexico--the 'border blasters'--they could overpower everyone else's signals and there wasn't anything the FCC could do. Of course, this was back when radio was 'it'...
If I'm remembering correctly the US and Mexico got together to put a stop to them sometime in the 70s maybe.

The one observation that I made early on is one that my dad introduced me to, and I introduced my daughter to. It has served all three of us very well. You MUST have absolute honesty and integrity. That will carry you through many things.
In my case it got me the job that I have had for twenty one years. I work for the government, as their painter. I work in four communities in about eighty buildings. I have pretty much ZERO accountability to anyone, because they trust me to show up, do my job well, and not steal anything or cheat on hours. I am on the road alone for weeks at a time, I make my own schedule, do what I want. I am so very careful to not rock that boat because I’ve had shitty jobs. The oil patch, for example. Where we were treated like animals. Some of us were.
My wife trusts me, and I appreciate that. She should trust me.
Even people who don’t like my personality respect my integrity.
For a time I was probably the only person ever to have master keys to both all federal and territorial government buildings. Think about that for a second: the master keys to all levels of all government buildings with no accountability. That’s a big responsibility.

I’m not perfect, far from it. But I can look anyone in the eye, and I can sleep easy.
My daughter is the same. Got her first job at 12 as the grocery stores youngest employee. At fourteen she was in charge of cashier training. She got head hunted at 16 by another store to sell paint, and the first week they gave her keys to the multi million dollar business. She kept both jobs to put herself through med school.

The thing with honesty and integrity is it's easy to get - just do the right thing by people always. It's also easy to keep - just keep doing the right thing. If you lose it though, it's impossible to get back with most people, and incredibly difficult to get back even with the more forgiving.

I'm a man of my word, and people know they can rely on me to do the right thing. That counts for a lot nowadays in a world full of bullshit artists and snakeoil salesmen.

Here is another observation....
TV ads for cars never seem to mention fuel economy or performance anymore. They brag about safety features but that seems to be all.
Except Dodge commercials. They still have guts!
