Condo's and Time Shares

At one time I was interested in getting a lake home ‘someday’ but the property taxes were always outrageous causing me to decline, plus many were (and are) wildly overpriced pieces of **** cuz it’s on da lake or river. Anything decent is a ridiculous cash outlay for folks who have money to wipe their asses with or go in endless debt to have it. And the costs of those hi-rise condo’s, reading about the one recently built next to the one that collapsed, getting a million and some more? WDF hey…to live in a glorified apartment building? Ain’t within miles of my cup a tea.

My daughter lived on Miami Beach for a couple years for her 1st job, so we'd go there for a week maybe twice or so a year. I got real bored after the 1st day. Go to da beach, did that, walk the popular drags, eat at the overpriced restaurants...did that, appease the wife to do some shopping...did that. Pay $15 bucks for a small Dixie cup Margarita, did that. See an endless flow of people ya don't wanna encounter in a dark alley? Some of theee ******* weirdest people. One 'guy' walking da beach in nothing but a little thong so tanned up he looked like leather with...I guess angel wings tied around his neck...WDeeF? BORING and scary. I kept thinking about stuff needing doing at home including working on my ride. So glad when we moved our daughter dee **** outta there.

When Submit and I bought our lake house 29 years ago, it was all the money in the world to us. Over the years, we ended up putting in about 75 percent more than we paid for the property and invested 6 years of hard labor, but now 20 years later (next month), the property is now worth nearly three times more than our original investment.

If we are speaking of real estate worth,I will only say the market is unstable and quirky at best. Any hint of poor maintenance or "old style construction" or sea level rise, or pollution, rumors ,conspiracy theories, not trusting management ,cover ups of maintenence, complete distrust will cause concern with enough people in that price range , they may reject it. Kinda like politics now. Can't trust anyone.
I am small peanuts and am not bragging in the least but each of my properties in Charleston SC and condo West of Boston on paper and recent sales in each area went up well over 100,000.00 in the last 5 months each. That's insanity. The market is nuts at the moment and will change on a dime on any info especially negative info like this recent condo neglect.

My wife, Theresa, and I built our first lake house. I did it because my job was a seven day a week program. I worked so much, life turned into nothing but my job. Rather than wait for the vacations we took several times a year I built a place they could go to every weekend. I took a seven month leave of absence from work to build it. Theresa and I had a great time together building it. We had it for 12 years and when they were done with it, I sold it. It was great, better than a few vacations that would have come and gone. It was a place many memories were made and when it was said and done, I made a good amount of money, they won and so did I. Just the lot on the water, deeper the water the better, goes for 1000 dollars a running foot, 97 feet, 97 thousand, I paid 20 thousand. Like Mark and Submit, Theresa and I worked hard for it, but, hard work pays off. No regrets here!

How big will the special assessment have to be to cover the needed maintenance on a building that needs millions in repairs. There are dozens, we'll find out.

What's wrong with a condo ? I had a condo for millennia... in the town of Bedrock... until I sold it to my friends, Barney & Betty Rubble.
See post #25. I think I spelled it out quite well...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

My post was "tongue-in-cheek". For comedic entertainment value only. What's the matter ? I tell ya, I don't get no respect. I once told a girl I had a few condos. She said "Florida" ? I said, " no, Trojan". :fool:

What part of don't live that close to the edge don't people understand. I have no sympathy for people who do that, I'm sorry. I don't like seeing it, but, who didn't think it was going to wash away. That's just street smart. ( that phrase is on the do not use list ). Lake front view, in lake view.
This ^^^ and then, they want taxpayers to foot the bill to refurbish, so they can eventually sell for stupid money. SCREW YOU !

My father and Grandfather always said build on high ground. We bought a lot at Delaronde Lake here in Saskatchewan in 1983. Cleared the lot in October, hired a contractor to put in the grade beam and holding tank. Beginning of July 1984 we started building. Friends and family helped to start. Then hired the contractor to put the 12-12 pitch roof on with cedar shakes.
Except for rough in electrical, plumbing, and some flooring we did the rest.
Our neighbours to the west of us are having problems with their holding tanks getting ground water for at least 2 years, sometimes getting pumped out every 3 weeks.
One year we used the cabin 146 days, pumped the holding tank 3 times.
Bonus we have electricity, nearest place to shop is 10 miles away.
So it has been great, family and friends get togethers.

I bought a house out in the woods on a creek in 1986. I figured this would be not only my home but my vacation home too. I’ve expanded it to suit my desires and needs - not for resale considerations. 2.5 acres and some great neighbors. I live in comparable paradise (for NJ).

I used similar philosophy to: “if you find a job doing what you love, then you’ll never work a day in your life”. So I built a home that I love, so I am on vacation every day! God bless!
