the cuda hood actually matches the side scoop on the 70 roadrunner , I like the charger's squared off lines , dont think I would go that direction with it but it's not my car , it wouldn't be mistaken for somebody elses car at a show , ed roth didn't conform to popular opinion either

I agree it's a sweet looking hood.. on a Cuda! I also agree that it's a terrible design as far as any functionality goes but so is the Charger hood. To each their own, I caught some crap over turning my Charger into a shaker hood car and could care less.

Bottom line,
Build a car that you like. If you want to have/build a custom car that’s one of a kind. Go for it. Your car, your time and money going into it. If others don’t like it they can kiss off. IMO

It's function is as a hood for the car, you know, so that the engine isn't open to the world, so that it won't get rain and other crap in the engine compartment...

What's your point? Here's my suggestion to you: go build a car that is simply "functional", an elongated box of sheet metal, no trim, no curves, nothing but flat straight sides, headlights in the front, some kind of tail lights and whatever other markers you might have to have, on basic boring wheels, now go SELL it. I think they did something like this in Russia because there isn't much car market competition there so they don't have to do anything to appeal to buyers. You are confusing CRAFT design with Industrial Design. Those "simulated, non-functional" hood scoops have the same function as the gills on the fender, the cheese grater front grill, etc., they look really cool! Don't like it? Go replace the rally hood on your 'Cuda with a flat piece of sheet metal and see how appealing that is.
So to answer your question more directly: NO, I disagree that the hood scoops are non-functional. What design school did you go to?

Didn't miss the point at all, it's a sweet looking hood as are the Chargers, RR and many others that do nothing but cover the motor and look cool. When I say functional it's only my preference, I like things that serve a purpose and aren't just for looks. I've always loved shakers, they're the ultimate functioning scoop.. they're cool to watch it shake too

Mine.. many like it, many don't but I don't care. I'll be the last one bitching about what manifold, carb spacer, filter, etc will fit under my hood because it goes through it

I didn't want the car period but the guy selling it was nuts and it would have been stupid not to buy it. Turns out to be a really nice running and driving car that has grown on me - not that it's any of your business. All original sheet metal and Hemi driveline 4 speed. Really cool car and beautiful E5 Blue paint job.

I know some hoods are hard to find. I put the color matched hood safely away. I bought a salvage yard hood and cut a hole in it mounted the scoop and painted it black for my taste. I have had no one say it looked bad in 10 years. It is a first gen though. I say if it is your car do what you want.

it's been done before

not knowing exactly what it is & how it was built
whether if it is or it's not functional in the way,
(the org.s weren't a real ram air functionality)
meaning it does NOT have openings to let fresh/cooler-air ramed air
into the breather or thru the carbs (not sure on that specific hood)

like Devlin's custom-built shaker does

or a 6 pack/6bbl hood does

or the Ramcharger or Air GRabber hoods did/do

Hell I had a blower sticking out of my 68 Charger R/T hood
I cut & hacked that poor org. hood ( I had plenty of them)
I also later had a Harwood 70's style Pro-stock "functional hood scoop"
(not the snorkel mailslot type)

with a 2x4bbl or an STR 14-6 under it, sealed to the hood for ram air
it was the Late 70's-early 80's

would I do it today, no probably not
not unless I was building an era-correct racecar or something

some people "most VIN/fendertag readers/purists" hated it
