  • We have a stroked 360 to 408 from Blueprint Engines. We thought about some inexpensive alum. heads for it. Has anyone made the change and did it make a big enough difference?

No, nobody here has ever done that.

A better response is
Yes, lots have
Do a search everything you need is here

I’ve done it and regretted it. Wasn’t worth it. Went back to stock. I guess it depends on what you’re after. I just want an easy running 340.

Thanks for a real answer, Rodney. I know Blueprint puts them on but I don't know if they make other changes like a cam.

Come on, Steve....The way that you asked this question begged for satire.

If you are looking for heat disbursement and a small gain in HP (30-40HP), than aluminum heads is a go. But I would not recommend them as the ONLY upgrade. I have them on my BB, along with a cam, intake, headers, carb, etc. That was good for 585 HP.
If you can get a set of original 340 heads, then build around them, they are worth it.
Blueprint engines offers a great set-up, go with their recommendation. Easy 465 HP.

I'll talk to them tomorrow and see if they will tell me what they've done besides heads. I know they show 110hp between the iron and aluminum heads but was there more to it. Besides living at high elevations always throw a wrench into things.

If you go back to there site and read what each engine contains… yes, there is a list of parts, you would not be asking these questions.

I have had engines with both and I will say first, the only issue when choosing cast iron head is that they are considerably heavier. Cast iron is more affordable, very durable and doesn’t expand with heat. Aluminum heads heat up a lot easier and quicker compared with an iron head which reduces the risk of detonation or pre-ignition. You can repair aluminum heads easier, but I don't want a repaired head on my car, that's just me. If you aren't going to race the car and weight is not a problem, don't waste your money, because all you will have is the right to say, of course it has aluminum heads. It's a good question and I'm not saying aluminum heads are bad, I'm saying stock small block 340 heads are great heads. I may not know Mopar like the rest here, but I have had my share of engines.

You increased displacement by 50 ci. Why would one use stock cylinder heads?

For the purist a stock 426, 440, 383, or 340 run well, if It's all horsepower you're looking for, well then, the skys the limit. Why stop with just heads. Most are pretty happy knowing they have a BB mopar, was my point.

I didn’t specifically laugh AT him, it was the way the question was written.
Has anyone ever changed their oil?
Has anyone ever upgraded to a 4 barrel intake manifold?
Has anyone ever washed their car?
Seriously, people....
Yes, people have done all of those things too.
The best inquiries are usually structured like
“Looking for opinions on using aluminum heads on a 318-360”.

Yes, aluminum heads are great and I have used many. I would start my sbc builds with a dart little m block or a dart shp, an over kill for someone that was only using the car as a street racer. You can spend as much as you want and I have and it proved nothing. I was thinking he was just looking for a little get up and go. Not 5 to 6 hundred hp. You did have fun at his expense and say what you want, none of my business and I'm learning about minding my own business more everyday.
