I spent most of last weekend (60's & sunny) running the cars and motorcycles for the last time in 2021 as winter is fast approaching where I live. My routine for them is to head down to fill up with fresh gas and go for a drive around the country section, about a 10 mile square of county blacktops. The last car to go was our 1968 GTX, a factory manual steering car, as I was rolling down the road I thought to myself there really is nothing quite like a old manual steering car, what a great old fashion real feel of the road! Here she is basking in the sunlight before getting parked for the winter.

I love my manual steering cars, and manual brakes as well. I like to have the feel of the machine pieces doing their work, not some power assisted phantom. My RR has both, and is a handful to drive….just the way I like it!
 
I am a big fan of manual steering and brakes on these old cars as well.

I’m good with manual steering but think I may change to one of those 20:1 steering boxes. I remember the first neighborhood corner I turned in my 66 Satellite I nearly ended up in the yard on the far side - wasn’t winding the wheel fast enough.

Well you got the NW right.....NW Iowa. I'm a small town in the country kinda guy, it's quiet here, no crazy city **** for me I'm too old for that now. Just got to watch for them tractor turds left on the road from harvest.

I'm the same way. The first thing my wife asked when we looked at my Coronet is if it had A/C. These days the only thing a car with no A/C and power steering can do for me, is take me to one that does!! LOL
 
These old manual steering/brake cars require that you know how to drive. I enjoy feeling the road and drum brakes. Maybe it all started with building and driving go carts and mini bikes as a kid! 440'
 
I switched my Charger to manual brakes and steering this year. Been a long time since I drove manual steering, takes a lot of getting used to. I don't think a spool in the rear helps any.
 
I have Manual Disc Brakes front and rear drums which is OK for stopping my 66 Ply Sat. Power Steering also which I prefer over the "ARMSTRONG MANUAL STEERING" which to me is a PITA. Learned how to drive with both Manual and it sucked especially when doing Parallel Parking. Pops would buy only the basic low level cars with Manual everything. Hell my Mom always had issues with it back in the day. Now days, Power Steering and Power Brakes is the only way to go...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

Yes it does but that's what makes it such a unique experience cruising down the road, takes me back to those good ol days, most of us grew up around these manual machines.
 
I am fine with my Satellite that is manual steering & brakes. I grew up with a '70 Barracuda with PS & PB's.
When I was 18 my parents agreed to a second car to be shared by me & my mom. I really liked a '70 Cuda 340 low option car, real low miles at a local dealership. My mom tried parallel parking with it on the lot. At 18 I had plenty of arm strength. She said it needed power steering. The dealer had an add on power steering but wanted too much $, wouldn't come down on price. A couple weeks later bought the '70 Barracuda Gran Coupe with PS & PB. I put about 98,000 miles on that car.
 
I have a complete PS setup ready to install, been sitting on a shelf for 3 years.
 
Our Charger is manual brakes and steering with a big block on the nose. My dad bought the car in May of 1998 when I was 15. At 15 1/2 I was allowed to get my learners permit with the stipulation that between the ages of 15 1/2 and 16 you drove 40 hours with an adult. I got most of my hours in the Charger with my mom riding shot gun. We would go out at dusk for an hour or so at a time...even at 15 I liked the way the manual brakes and steering felt looking over that big ol hood!
 
I don’t have any problems Parallel parking, I like the challenge. I also took my motorcycle skills test on a full dress Harley. The instructor said I was the first person ever to show up on a full dresser, and he was impressed that I passed with flying colors. I take control of my machines, and like it just that way!
....until you have to do a 3-point turn or parallel park in a front end heavy hemi car with wide tires.
