This is really bothering me for some reason...
The beautiful former Nash-Kelvinator office/complex, later used by AMC and then
finally Chrysler, is going to be torn down by "urban renewal" types:

I always found the architecture of this building to be not only unique, but downright
gorgeous...

I could use some of those bricks.

So sad seeing that town run by idiots for decades now....
They have no respect for their own history and no sense of self-sustaining.

It’s heartbreaking to see what Detroit has become.
Up until about two years ago we got two Detroit stations as part of our town TV package. To see the decay is just awful. Abandoned buildings rotting, looted, vandalized.
There was a lot of great history and amazing architecture.

Old people like us, view old buildings differently than young people. No one here needs a lesson on where things are going. If for nothing else, it would make great condos. It is beautiful!!

Just about everything in Detroit has gone to pot.
I agree it's sad.
Not true. If you lived in the area you would be amazed what has happened in the last 10 years. Both new buildings and restored older ones.

While somewhat unrelated to this thread, this goes to people's inability to see past today. In the early 70's NYRA - New York Racing Authority - decided to 'update' their 3 horse racing courses, Belmont Park, Aqueduct and Saratoga. They tore down the historic stands of Belmont Park and Aqueduct and put up these monoliths. The only thing that saved Saratoga from the same fate was a lack of funds. The historic Saratoga race course, throughout history considered the jewel of American race courses, stands today as it did in 1863 not because of man's vision but because NYRA simply ran out of money.

I almost took a job in that very building, when it was amc, a good friend's dad worked there and his son took the job, it was in drivetrain development.
I declined and went on to much better things.
Anyway my bud stayed on and went to Chrysler when they bought them...... he is now a clay modeler close to retirement.

Myself, family, friends go downtown Detroit on a regular basis. The turn around is nothing short of amazing. Nobody I know personally has ever had any trouble. This is first hand information. Not some reporters view. Are there bad spots? Sure, but they aren’t areas you would go to anyway. That’s where the majority of violent crime is. Locals fighting each other for status and drug trade. The financial report you listed was from 7 years ago. So I’d say experience the Detroit area before you knock it.

Here is a documentary from 6 months ago. I think I saw one like it on discovery a few months back. I am sure there are a few places being rebuilt for the good but with all the problems surrounding it, it's like giving a 600lb 90 year old man a new heart...

I can only wish that someone at least attempted to retrieve whatever they could of the history
created within those walls before all the nightmare began....

7 Mile rd is at the north end of the city, nowhere close to downtown Detoit. Closer to Redford and Warren. And like I said. There are areas to stay on the main road. Stay away from drug wars, drug purchases, drug use, prositutes and you'll be left alone. No reason to be in this area unless you need to go to a business there. I pick up car parts from a huge rebuilder one mile north. Never an issue.
