I am no longer frustrated, finally found a pair of diagonal pliers aka side cutters that last.I was buying Channellock,Klein and cheap ones that never lasted me.Finally my Snap On tool dealer saw the bucket of them I had 2 weeks ago and let me try a pair of Knipex for a week.Saw I loved them and paid for them the next week.I have 3 more on order which I had ordered last week

Knipex are pretty decent, German made...

Knipex are German made and cut very well and hold up too.. They also make some really good tools. I love Snap On but have a hard time with good salesman and that gets old.
You beat me to it... what he said in the post above..

I have used Klein tools side cutters over 30 years. Seem to hold up well unless you do some dumbass move like cut a neutral and hot at the same time.

Good thing is my Snap On dealer does not push me to buy first, knows pressuring the customer to buy the tool is a no no.Plus great service out of him.

I like to keep a spare or two just in case of said dumbass moves....usually happens when you lend them to someone else.....or someone else is 'helping' on a job.

I have a pair of Craftsman from the mid 80's... still going strong.

Nothing against Knipex, but I am surprised you have not had good results with the Klein diagonals with the light blue handles like Roger posted above. Unless you have been using their red handle model, those are not hardened like the blue's. I have been using the Klein blue's all my life.

I’m an IBEW electrician by trade. almost 30 years at it.

I’m a Klein guy. Always have been. Screwdrivers and side cutters are always Klein.

that said. knipex are very, very nice tools. I don’t own any, but have handled them, and they are a quality tool.

I suppose the old adage “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” is why I still have my Klein’s.

May I ask what trade you're using these in?
I also have used Klein my entire career (IBEW), and only replace when lost or someone has "borrowed" them.

I’m a kline guy but I’ve used others knipex . To me in the electrical field Kline is the King and always has been.. just like Kennedy tool boxes and starret tools in the machine shop world, tough to beat.

I am also curious as to what the OP is cutting with them.

I have both Klein and Channel Lock and haven't had any issues.

I do have Xuron for special applications. Super sharp but kind of brittle and can snap if used on the wrong material.
I use those for nickel steel, fine gauge insulated wire, and a few other things.

I have used my Kleins for everything. When I do eventually end up messing them up I keep them as shop beaters. I think I still have the first set I ever owned. They were M. Klein and sons. Way before they went main stream with the lineman logo.

Man! Judging by the title, I thought you got laid for the first time! Glad it was nothing worse! LOL

I've had a these forever. Just have to sharpen them from time to time. And I have this sign on my box, though no one pays attention to it. I loan my tools to friends all the time. Some are actually returned.

Thanks Joel.

I tried the red handles once....the edges were dulled by hard drawn copper cable....never again. The blue handle version is great....I often use them to pull nails as well. Always keep them lubed and free running. :)

almost 30 years at it.
In a few short weeks, I will have turned 40 years at the trade.

Over here some companies (and the regulatory body also) recommend the use of 1000V rated side-cutters and Linesman pliers etc. I hate those things....the handles are so bulky, and I find that the ones I have tried are not very sharp - or don't cut near as well as the Klein's that I prefer to use.

The reasoning behind having to use the 1000V rating flies against a more important rules (and principal) - You should never be working on LIVE cables if it can at all be avoided. If I ever have to work on Live equipment, I take the extra precautions necessary. :D

I also refuse to buy the 1000V rated Insulated socket sets on offer. I would rather pay $30 for some high quality Raychem heat-shrink to cover my good quality sockets and ratchet, than splash out on a tool I would probably only use once. In fact, I did just that in October last year....a 30 minute job with regular tools and some thick-wall heatshrink.....on Live busbars in a switch chamber. No problem at all.
