receiver/drier problem

Okay lets recap it at the hemi show. I will do more research as what i can do to help.

@pioneer61 You just need to remove the bolt and install the pressure switch in place from your old unit.

Weird! I got same unit and it got the visor glass.

I see green seals with the new one. That unit is probably ready for r134. Four Seasons get that same dryer ready for the refrigerant you will use. It's also available for r12. What's the dryer PN you got?

And yes, the dryer is serviceable cuting, installing the new dessicant gel, and welding

The part number for the Four Seasons drier was 33259

As far as swapping the pressure switch, i was a little concerned i might break it trying to remove it. Didn't look like there was any good place to get a grip on it.

Was planning on cutting open the original today but got sidetracked buying a Pontiac.

I'm gonna search between my old emails from RockAuto ( where I bought the dryer ) for that, but I'm pretty sure that's for r134. Four seasons code are set something like 33xxxx for r134 refrigerant parts and 23xxx for r12... or something like that. That's the answer I got about that throught the Rockauto customers service. I got also the Four Seasons expansion valve from them and was the same thing.

I "upgraded" my system from r12 to r134, hence I asked for that.

and don't worry about the pressure switch. It won't break. I just used an adjustable angled plyer and came out easily. Is not tight enought to get worried.

About service the dryer. I took pics of the AC refrigerant conversion form a Mopar magazine I have. Here is te section where talks about how to service it

just found the email response by rockauto for the dryer

"Four Seasons has given part # 33280 for vehicles with Dealer installed air, and part # 33259 for vehicles with Factory installed air.

The technician at the manufacturer said that all of their parts starting in 33 will be R134a compliant. If the parts starts in 34 it will only be compatible with R12.

Thank you,

Jeff

And then in another previous response when I was asking about the 33259 they offer on their website:

Dear Nacho,

I contacted the manufacturer and he confirmed that this unit is compatible with both.

If you need further assistance please respond to this email or call us toll free at 1-866-762-5288.

Thank you,

I just asked twice, just in case. That was back on 2010.

with the later response about the 33xxx and 34xxx PN diff about the refrigerant compatibility proceeded with the expansion valve selection to buy

That confirms what i recall reading about the part before i purchased it. Said it was compatible with both. REALLY appreciate you digging out that old article as well. Once i get a little time freed up, i'm gonna cut open the original and post some pics.

I think you are to remove the plug and use your old switch.
the sight glass is under the tape on top under the paint.

Just installed one I got from rockauto a few months ago.

Not 100% but much closer than the OP.

Worked 100%

$15 IIRC

Cut the bottom cap of the drier off at the weld. Good i didn't go any higher or i'da cut into the flanges of the screen. The screen is held in pretty tight. Not sure how i'm going to remove it without mangling it.

Has anybody here swapped the pressure switch from their original drier to an aftermarket? I started to remove the bolt from the aftermarket and it began to hiss and leak oil. Was surprised that it was under pressure. I tightened it back up since i didn't know what can of worms i might be opening. Any suggestions?

It’s under vacuum. Don’t do that until ready to install in the system.

i can imagine all of whatever's under vacuum leaking out while i attempt to thread everything in. How critical is keeping the vacuum pressure in?

It keeps the moisture out until you’re ready to install into the system
