New Diamondback Tires

I got my new pair of Diamondback Classic III redline tires last week and got them mounted on my 1967 Coronet R/T. These replace the POS Cokers I had there. With about 4000 miles on them, the plies separated on one of them, causing a big lump. The other "good" one (hasn't destroyed itself yet) I had mounted up as a spare. I am hoping that my remaining rear Cokers last longer. These new tires were $286.00US each. When I order from United States, I figure if I roughly double that amount, that will be my cost in Can.$, at my door. Here is how it works:
Tires, shipping, conversion to Can.$ = $909.00 Can.
Brokerage (border) fees, Can. taxes = $179.00 Can.
Total = $1088.00 Can.
Mounting and balance (3 tires) = $ 70.00 Can.
Total = $1158.00 Can.
Comparing:
Tires ($286.00US X 2) = $572.00 (doubled) = $1144.00
Pretty close estimate. Within $14.00.
Just to illustrate how expensive it is to build a car in Canada, when just about everything has to come out of U.S. I have a parcel drop in Port Huron, Michigan, about 75 miles away. I used to have U.S. shipments sent there, and drive over to pick them up, saving higher shipping fees and brokerage charges. As a bonus, sometimes the Canadian Customs would also give us a pass on the taxes. Now, however, with ever-changing Covid rules at the border crossing it is not worth jumping through all the hoops to cross to U.S. for half a day. I now just bend over the table and let the shippers and tax hounds have their way with me.

Damn, that's alot of $$$, but damn they look GREAT !! And those wheels, too !
 
I bought them from Jeg's in 2019. Drove them 2 summers, about 4000 miles.
Those tires look great and would like to have the redlines on my Plymouth. I have the white letter BF’s I got from Coker on it and it has been around 3k on those since I got them in ’18. So far so good glad to say.

And yeah I remember when you tried to obtain the headlight retainers for my Dakota and what the shipping fees might entail since I couldn’t find them anywhere here…before you found out they weren’t available by you either. On this note, thanks again for trying to help me out.
 
WOW,,,I paid less than that for all 4 of mine delivered to my door. ( I can mount and balance them fro free at work )

A 55 gallon drum of this will provide a little relief. You'll probably need a second drum after getting shafted on what it would take to ship one of these!

So the DB3 is the BFG carcass tires????


Mine were $1180 delivered to me door. But Im am in the states. Didnt realize how much of a difference it cost to ship tires to Canada

Yes.

And if you prefer a different tire they will usually have no problem putting a stripe on it.

(they do say the newer MT drag radials don't turn out great as the sidewall is so soft)

I'm still looking for something that'll work having one on; don't drive at night very often anyway and might hunt more in spring. Not a high priority among other chit to do.
 
The DB SS is less expensive than the DB3
The DB3 more closely matches the appearance of the Cokers that I still have on the rear of my car for not a whole lot more.
 
As I understand it, Coker makes their own redline tires from old BFG Silvertown molds. DiamondBack has BFG make special T/A's with a blank face where the raised white letters would normally be. DiamondBack then applies their specific sidewall to these BFG-produced tires, be it redline, blueline, wide white, etc.
The Cokers took gobs of weight to balance, while the two new DB3's and remaining front Coker that was remounted to a steel wheel as a spare required just 3 ounces between them. I would suspect that the majority of this would be with the spare Coker. I suspect that BFG is just better at making tires than Coker.
 
Too bad you couldn't find someone who was coming across that could mount them and drive over with them on their car. Then send them back with a cheap set of used tires.

Reason I'm thinking of it is the color on my car with the red trim I'd think would be a nice change up with redlines.

I have 15" X 7" rims all around. 215's on the front and 235's on the back. People are saying that 16" tires are going to be difficult to find in some sizes, much like 14" tires are now.

Wow, Ron. That is areal great looking Fury You have there. I will post a picture of 15" X 7" wheel that I bought for my '64 Polara. It is one piece aluminum wheel that resembles a Magnum 500 with trim ring. They are sold in Canada by Golden Leaf Automotive. Also, pictures of a 1964 Polara 500 convertible that I restored and sold.

What a beautiful Polara and work of art. Yep, those were the wheels I had in mind. Those air filters on your car had to involve a lot of cash! I saw a guy at the Iola WI meet some years ago trying to sell a badly beat up set for...$1200..
