Old paint

Maybe this is getting done already but anyways. How many of you ruff up the old paint with sandpaper before putting a stripping component on it. Seems to make the process faster

I do that as well. And to keep the stripper from drying out. I put a sheet of plastic or wax sides paper over top to make the stripper stay wet to do its jobs.

I also use a brass bar bq brush to agitate the stripper. If its thick. But soft. Some old plexiglass cut into strips to scrape so it does not gouge the metal.

You can use butcher paper too. Lay it on right away. Do it in the shade. The vapors are toxic.

Got it so far wax paper is helping as to not letting dried out.

it just helps to soak into the original first coatings. You might find that the original lead based product might be tough to get off. But covering the stripper makes it bite in. The clean up after is easier as well.

A lot of paint strippers actually recommend scaring surface with 80 grit before application. If its a good quality product it should see the paint start to wrinkle up seconds after you apply it. If it was a can that had been previous opened and had been sitting for a while be aware it does weaken over time once that can has been opened !!

I always thought you sun belt guys started at 4am so you could wrap up jobs like that by 7 or 8 and beat Mr Sun. Time for siesta lol.

Nope we go till it hits 110 then we hide under a rock. Best time of the for me is 5.00 until 12.00 right now. But as summer comes the earlier I get started.

Okay got fenders ,hood and trunk lid done and 2k on them. I see some areas that some skim coating needs done. What's the best skim coat to use over 2k primer. Or the all the same just different name.
