The Beginnings of My Shop Build

If you heat and cool these big shops, what are you using please?

The shop build has not really taken off just yet due to the really wet and rainy weather as of lately. We just now got the base for the drive in and hopefully the corner posts for the shop will be in the ground soon.

My shop is 28 x 40 and a single 36k BTU Mitsubishi mini split heats and cools it fine in South Carolina. I also used scissor trusses in one bay to accommodate a lift.

Thank you T2R9! I want to say I love the Great State of South Carolina!!! My other rock (Jesus is # 1) and the heart and soul of our family is from there, her name is Carolyn and she is my wonderful wife!!!!

Just a question. Based on the picture shown of the driveway being above the surrounding ground, how will water flow from one side of the driveway to the other? If the grade on both sides is downhill parallel to the drive it will not be a problem. Be careful about creating dams to trap water.

Thanks Coronet, Arch! This area of the property is really level and there isn't any standing or flow of rainwater to contend with. There is also a slight incline you might have noticed leading up to the actual build site of the shop that should work out in my favor if we were to have some abnormally heavy rainfall.

My 32x48 shop I heat with a wood burning stove...and we get some bitterly cold winters up in the Canadian North, but it does pretty well considering it's trying to heat a volume of space almost twice what it was designed for. And I only get to run it every 4 days due to my work shift so it cools down that big concrete slab, but I don't like to work in a crazy warm shop...about 10deg Celsius is my preferred temp.

As for cooling we don't get crazy hot summer weather for very long, and it cools down nicely at night so I just open the big bay doors front and rear in the evening to let it cool down.

If I were lookin to heat a shop I'd look into a waste oil furnace.. I could easily get 250+ gallons every year for free...

I've been trying to come up with a way to run a small one on the days when I'm working so to keep the temps a little more stable...Would like to tie it into my stove and chimney set-up some how.

Mechanic friend has one in his shop.. Works great... There are annual maintenance procedures with them, so be prepared for these....

I have a 40' tube heater and a mini split A/C unit 40x40 14' side walls

I heat my 26'x48' shop (attached to the house) with radiant in floor fed from the house boiler (NG), and a Mitsubishi mini split (AC only) for cooling / humidity control in the summer.

I've had to reconfigure the driveway to allow room for the concrete truck to get back to the site. The turn was going to be too sharp before the re-do.

I'm not very concerned with cooling my shop but will have a fan on hand to help with the draft. I have decided on electric heat at this point but that could change.

That duct work screams "I Own An A/C Company...."
Well, that... Or My A/C contractor loves me...

Very Nice...

I'm working on adding A/C to my shop.. But I'm not an A/C contractor & nobody loves me...

actually my AC contractor needs a engine built!:rofl:
