The Argument for More Roundabouts

Have one here that's been in place for well over 50 years and I used to like it until stop signs were placed everywhere. A wide open space and it has stop signs now? WTH!? Loved driving in Germany where just about all open intersections had yield signs and at intersections with lights, you better stay awake because if you didn't move within 1/2 second of the light turning green, you'd hear horns blowing from no less than 3 other cars!

I think statistically they are safer because the Europeans are a little smarter.
See below:

I used to think they were stupid, but seeing that most drivers can't handle a 4-way stop, I now believe they're an improvement.
99% of the people driving don't even know the definition of. "Yield to the right of way", let alone practice it!!

Not a big fan but it's better than-

The "diverging diamond"- great idea or ridiculous over engineering?

Believe it not but it decreases traffic congestion, make for easier left turns so traff

We have a diverging diamond near my house. It has improved traffic flow immensely. But, I can remember when the highway (US 40) was only two lanes there. Now it's I-70 with six lanes each direction.
In the city of St. Louis there has been a roundabout for as long as I can remember, and that's been since the 60s. It's a biggun, about four or five streets meet there. Its always worked well and no traffic lights to maintain.
Trouble is, these days ya don't want to go there.

Diverging diamond was the best thing added in Port Wentworth, Georgia. It greatly reduced congestion and it makes it much easier to see the tractor trailers and logging trucks that blow through the red signal lights.

We call it Glorietas, and yes you hardly see an accident in a roundabout, why is so hard to drive in a circle? Really I can't comprehend why, besides they look nice and not everything has to be square in a city,
