For most Likely the last 35 years, I‘ve strictly driven GMC pickup trucks. In 2000, I tried the dodge truck and within 2 months had 2 transmissions replaced one right after the other. Traded back for GMC until now. The GMC truck isn’t even close to what it used to be. If I needed a real off road type of truck, and I do.. I just picked this up and love it! Not a b body but is a beast!

Nice looking Ram, PowerWagon

congrats

Friend of mine that owns an auto service shop used to give me some chit being a mopar guy. For several years he leased pickups, couple a Fords and GM’s, never Ram. Every one of them he had something to bitch about and would turn them in rather than buy after lease. Until – he leased a Ram…hmm…no complaints and he says he’s going to buy it.

Glad you like it. Does it have the sway bar disconnect on it? I believe that is standard. How about locking diff? I like my Rebel, but miss my Laramie.

Nice Ram! We all know about the past tranny issues those days have been gone for a long time, like Ron H just said ford, gm all had something to bitch about but Dodge pickups have always has been the workhorse of the three just drive around and see all the old (70's & 80's) power wagons still hooked on snowplow blades setting behind shops nation wide.

I drive a 20 GM diesel for my part time job. The transmission is awesome and Dodge diesel transmissions just can't touch it. That's about it though. Smaller cab with less foot room than the Ram, Super cheap interior compared to the Ram and the electronics and switches are actually terrible compared to the Ram. The gawd awful V8 diesel sound and horrible styling are I suppose subject to opinion.
Ram isn't perfect though. Exhaust manifolds will crack at 50,000 and the lifter issue should have been fixed about a decade ago.
Never have had luck with Ford trucks either.

Yes on both.. pretty much frikin loaded! I had looked a Rebel but couldn’t agree on price. They wanted me to lease it for a very nice payment but I had so much equity in my GMC that it would be good for now but at trade in time I’d take right up the ole wazoo! I don’t buy on payment and wasn’t about to do that. Equity is good!

I located the truck about an hour away and thought I’d go test drive it just to see how they are since 2000. I came home with it! I’ve had it in the muddy woods a couple time just after getting it and it’s a beast!

I still maintain Ram had no more transmission issues than GM had. I know of multiple trucks that got plenty of service life out of the Dodge transmissions and just as many or GM pickups in the local transmission shop mostly descendants of the POS 700R4, like the the 4L60, 4L65. All **** boxes. Even the vaulted 4L80 can’t hold up behind a weak 5.7 vortec
Funny how the TF904 and 727 were great transmissions, all of the sound they bolt a overdrive to the back of it and it’s a problem child? I think Dodge was gaining markets share very fast and it scared GM and FOMCO so they start rolling on a few transmission failures and bang Dodge had bad transmissions.
And for Dodge Diesel issues where people turn up a Cummins from 400-460 lb ft torque to 600+. Hook that monster to an oversized trailer and expect the Stock transmission to hold up no sir that’s your bad not Dodge.

That certainly could be. I know people who had issues with transmissions from all other truck manufacturers GM included. It was just a very sour experience for me never to have one with GMC and then immediately with the Ram truck X 2.

This is a good truck though. So far anyway! I will say (and won’t go to far in this category) the 6.4L Hemi gets thirsty! I’m averaging about 14-15 mpg.

Back in the 1980s I was at a driveline shop getting a driveshaft for my '73 Power Wagon.
The mechanic tells me, "We love Fords and Chevys, but we drive Mopars."
Usually when a mechanic says they love a brand(s), it means they are making money from repairing them :)

Funny, I had a 98 Dodge 1500, with a 360 in it. I went there to buy a 2500 with a cummins, but my friend said I didn't need that, what I needed was this 1500 with a 360. I trusted him and bought it. What a POS! Wore out front brakes, ate tires for breakfast and lunch, but man it rode smooth and had a killer stereo. But it didn't do what I wanted. I traded it in for a loss, and bought an F350 6.0 diesel and really was happy with that truck. When I jumped back into a Ram in 16, man how they had improved! I'll take a Ram 3500 over a Ford any day, but it is a very close second imho.
