440 wrist pin clearance

I ordered a new set of piston rods for my 440 from 440 source. My engine builder, who owns a race only shop, says seven of the rods have wrist pin clearance of 0.001, but one is 0.0006. What is the tolerance for a street engine making around 400hp? Should I return the one rod?

It’s the other way. The pin is too loose. 440 source said they’ve had a few over honed rods and they are sending me a replacement.

Yes, and don't forget to tip (or do something nice) for your machinist.

I wouldn't touch it. The alum will expand more & the 0.006" will grow. I do not specific #s for Ch, but for a Pontiac V8 the factory spec is 0.0005-0.0007".
