Why can't they get it right? Rant

A better question would be, "Why should they get it right?" The only reason why anything ever got done was because men needed money so they could get pussy. Something like a third of Gen Z men are virgins, and it's not because it's easier to stay in momma's basement playing video games and watching ****. It's because half of the young women are morbidly obese, and the few that are in shape can do better on OnlyFans than what the counter guy at O'Reilly's can provide. The few attractive girls have got pro ball players "sliding into their DM's" on Instagram, flying them out to Miami for the weekend. The flower of western feminity can make more money in a weekend of fornicating with Arab princes and eating their poop than the average Gen Z man will make in a year. Or the average man, period. There is no incentive for men to maintain this civilization, so they aren't.

Interesting take. Never considered things that way.
Edit: not sure I agree fully but may have relevance in some situations.

So, exactly who is supposed to be checking to make sure the part is the correct one? Most people who work at parts suppliers don’t know what a 318 is, or what the part looks like that you need. There is no checking being done, because nobody knows what to look for.

Enough with the negative waves Moriarty

My friend, don't just poo poo on me, make an argument. I didn't create this situation, and I'm not going to pretend things are hunky-dory when they're not.

The lack of decent help or just guys / gals that give a damn is a valid point.
It has been getting bad for several years and has finally reached a point were people expect it and accept it as normal.
I get new voices and names every week when I call in to order parts.

I’ve been hearing/seeing this more and more lately. Gasket sets having wrong sized pieces and/or missing pieces, tie rods with no threads, getting lefts side parts when the box is marked right side, etc, etc. QC is non-existent as is customer service and it seems that most places don’t give an F.

When I was a kid a Partsman was a decent job and the guys made enough money at it to take care of their family and pay a mortgage. That isn't the case now so you get what you pay for.
The managers threat of firing a minimum wage employee doesn't pack as much impact as the threat of firing a $30/hr employee does. Managers now are happy when these guys show up only 10 minutes late.

This is why I like shopping for parts on a site or store that shows pictures of the item/s.....
And on occasion, the wrong part arrives.
Heck! I've seen the wrong item pictured and pointed it out to them! Aggravating for sure!

It's at all levels these days from the parts store to foutune 500 companies. My wife is a supplier quality engineer and she is constantly after the suppliers to get **** right and they are building MRI machines!

A chunky woman can keep you plenty warm at night.
Another appropriate movie quote;
"It's a shame that what is pleasing to the touch and the eye are different things." Or something like that.

I just got a lesson in this on the higher end of the food chain. I had a consultation with my attorney regarding my pending retirement. She is senior partner of a high end firm, recruits top law school graduates, hardly dummies. A buddy of mine who is trustee for a multi million dollar estate tried to make an appointment. No one could figure out where to direct him, and he never got a return call. That changed after my meeting, he got prompt attention. I got a part time job offer: senior partner said she needed an older lawyer to mentor the kids on how to deal with clients. She explained that most of them haven't held actual jobs, and don't have a clue how to deal with real clients with real problems. Kind of scary, but a good deal for me - gets me out of the house, and into clean clothes when I park the truck next month. I graduated at the bottom of my law school class, because I paid my way driving a tractor trailer instead of living in the library.

Yep. I've been dealing with MSC Industrial on this issue. I ordered a round die holder. Got sent a hex die holder, in a box marked round die holder. Send it back, get another one. Same deal. I told customer service twice about it. I guess I have to physically go look at one before I buy.

Diesel had a leak. Pulled it apart and the seal looked rough. Drove in to town to a pump repair shop. A youngster I've never seen before comes up to the counter. "Do you have one of these?" She takes my seal and goes in the back. I've been going there for years, they have an extensive collection.

"We only have round ones in that size". Huh? So she shows me how the sides of my seal are flat, and hers was round.

The happy ending is: the diesel lives.

Sounds like you need one like this?

My local O'Reilly's is getting worse every day. The counter people seem to rotate out monthly. The last three visits, I've seen three different managers. At least, when I've had to order parts, I've received the correct parts 100% of the time over the past year. One of the better guys was always drunk. He got his *** canned when the manager caught him drinking on break. Another of the better ones died recently. I heard he drove home, sat in his living room, and died. The rest aren't more than 25. If you say "318" rather than "5.2L", then it's downhill from there.

Honestly, it's near impossible to find competent help that actually wants to work. Flipping jobs monthly appears to be the "thing" now.

Just caught another article about a couple of local biz’ that have closed up. One of them was a Simplicity dealer that had been around for 60+ years; others restaurants. And working with a couple of building contractors, the common issue – can’t find people or have to fire ‘em cuz they won’t show up anyway.

The article went on to describe how the pandemic caused people to think more about not wanting to spend their lives WORKING. What a friggin novel thought! Wonder why I didn’t think of this 45 years ago when I got up every morning after to go to – work. I think it had to do with needing money to pay rent, car expenses, later a mortgage, raising a family. Damn hey! Ya mean I could a just said NO; don’t want to spend my life working? Tell me please how this could have worked for me to sleep in, since it apparently is for a bunch of others..

I think a lot of this comes from people watching others in their 20s and 30s (trust-fund kids) online and on TV, out skiing, climbing the Himalayas, or spending months on a tropical island swimming, diving, and whatever. Thinking "hell, these guys don't have jobs and they're out living life to the fullest, no cares in the world!"; while simultaneously thinking "I can do that! They're not working, why should I?"...Obviously, their bubble is blown when they can't afford a trip across town, much less to Asia or some other exotic locale.

LA or Poly 318? 67 should be a LA

The worst part is Nobody gives a **** about being good or efficient, they don't even know that's a thing. It's all part of the "No personnal responsibility", "No judgment" that these people have been taught. It's actually a form of entitlement.
My 16 yo daughter is not like that. She is a hard worker and all of her employers love her. She is 16, so she is still learning, but she has a good work ethic and can even make change.
