I became the new owner today of the Charles Myers Stock Eliminator 1981 Imperial.

Wow! I just got the chills. I once had a 1981 Imperial, as a used car. It was, without a doubt, the WORST car I have ever owned. It had a host of electrical Gremlins, most of which I eventually solved. With that Fred Flintstone fuel injection and 2.21 rear gear, it couldn't pull the skin off a pudding! It not only was a dog in acceleration, it had a single dog sense. It could smell fear! If my wife or daughter drove it, there was usually some walking involved. Things got a bit better after I replaced the fuelly 318 with a carbed 360. A guy stopped in one day, out of the blue, to ask if I would sell it. I said, "Sure!" , and it was gone.

Do these Imperials have the unusual transverse torsion bar front suspension?

more info on the car please
81 Imperial legal Stock Eliminator. Last raced last October. Owner bought a Super Comp dragster.
318 engine built to NHRA SE rules. 335 horsepower about 1 second under the index. 12’7’s on a 13.75 index. 4200 pounds with driver. Charles has raced it for about 10 years. He said it’s been a race car since 85. Only one running in NHRA. I’ll have a complete video of the car soon.

Yes it’s a J body car & shares some parts with the Mirada/Cordoba J bodies
I sure would like to see under the hood...the fit of engine and transmission in the engine bay. Did they modify the firewall? More to the point: Will a 360 and 727 fit without too much massaging?

It’s a Stock Eliminator car so none of that is legal.

The Mirada and Cordoba came with that combo in 1980... optionally

Yep but only 318’s in the Imperial. And it was fuel injected in 81
1981 was the first year for the J body Imperial. The Cordoba and Mirada lost the 360/727 for 1981. All 904’s in V8’s got the lockup torque converter.

Not yet. I will soon. I have one on my Facebook page
Haven't found it yet. My prowess of navigating through FB leaves a bit to be desired. I'm not a regular user there.

interesting design lines on the body of that car

nice purchase

I sold the Myer's 318 Mirada to them.
Great People and my friends.
I still race my son's Aspen Wagon 318 O/SA
a few times a year. It set several National
Records and won the All Stars with him driving.
Feel free to reach out to me if you every need any
advise or help anytime. We have been running a
318 Stock and Superstock for nearly 20 years.

BTW Our 318 is rated 230 in Stock and yours should be
even less or the same NOT 335 especially with FI instead of Thermoquad.

PM me anytime if I can help.
