I think the correct term was either wentworth or whitworth, could be way out on that.
Both sizes advertised on this German tool. But face it, it would cost too much to change the 1/4-3/8-1/2" standard now.

What, nobody has the new Universal socket set? Sockets are SAE on one end, and Metric on the other. Still time to get a set for your favourite mechanic for Christmas. LOL.
I do have an impact socket set that has no "duplicate" sizes, IE where the SAE and metric sizes are the same- there is ONE socket labeled for both!
It was $15 at a yard sale and is a complete auto store brand 3/8 shallow and 1/2 deep impact set with extensions and adapters.
I kind of freaked out when I got it home and saw the somewhat bizarre methodology.
