About 2 months ago I caught a bug and was sick for about 3 days. Fever, body aches, cough, and runny nose with congestion.
It was not the vid flu, I think it was just a bug. A few days afterward, I noticed that I had a noticeable lump on my thyroid area.
It wasn't causing any pain or discomfort so I didn't feel like it was a huge emergency. I was out of state and figured I just wait until I got back home and see my family doctor. Over the next few weeks, I noticed I was losing weight and the lump was getting slightly bigger. I was due to be back home in about another week and decided to just put it off. Once I got back home, I went to see my FD and he sent me to see a specialist ENT Doctor. He sent me for an ultrasound and then to get a CT scan. By the time I got to see the specialist I had lost about 20 lbs and the lump in my neck had gotten almost as big as a golf ball.
I also had blood work done and all blood work came back completely normal.
The ENT said that it was just a cyst and it was no big deal but would need to be removed through surgery.
This is about 24 hours after surgery. I don't know if getting sick had anything to do with the cyst popping up or if it was just a coincidence.
The surgeon said I also have several more much smaller cysts on my parathyroid that might have to be removed down the road if they get any bigger.

Glad it was that simple and non-urgent. My wife has felt lumps on her neck area 4.5 yrs ago. She recognized it immediately and it was of course cancer. Now just this month 4.5 yrs into remission - it’s back and stronger. She started chemo last Monday and after several rounds will be going into isolation for a month in the hospital she works at for a bone marrow procedure and additional treatment.

Word to the wise - Never treat a lump as a nonevent. Cancer often presents that way. God bless you and very happy to hear your outcome.

You're very correct and believe me you're not the first one to tell me these very words.
Looking back I know I shouldn't have let it go. I'll be praying that your wife has a healthy recovery.
Very sorry to hear that and thanks for the kind words.

Son had his taken out on Monday with a 2" diameter tumor embedded. Still waiting for pathology. Quite possible it's Folicular Carcinoma.

Our best wishes for a good recovery.

@Hemi2Much glad to hear that you got it taken out, my dad had one and he had his taken out, he was losing his hair for a little bit. He’s doing much better getting this weight back, not losing his hair. He seems much more healthier, he couldn’t swallow before.

My dad had his taken out, they did a biopsy first, and then they tested it once it was removed and then they finally sent it out to a lab. His turned out to be a tumor but non-cancerous.

Praying for your son.

Thinking about you and your family!

Glad to hear that your surgery went well. Did your doctor biopsy the cyst or any of the others in your next to confirm "not cancer." My wife had her thyroid removed about 10 years ago due to thyroid cancer. It was just a little lump but could have caused big problems. Since that cancer issue, it has been an up and down journey to regulate her system with medication since the thyroid controls so much in your body.

Yes, he did a biopsy but I have not heard anything as of yet.

This is exactly what I've dealt with since my thyroid cancer (cancer #4 of 6 for those keeping score at home) in 2017.
I've written a mini-novel on here somewhere about all that but suffice to say, they'll tell you it's no big deal to lose your
thyroid - just take this pill and it's the same thing.

Well - turns out, it isn't.
Thyroids are amazingly complex little things that hold a lot of the "programming" for how your system operates -
and in realty, there is no single pill that totally replicates what it does.
The doc chases a number (TSH or whatever) and messes with your dosage and drug type constantly...

My wife has seen me go through all the cancers and dying ad infinitum, so she's seen some serious **** go down
with me over time - but she says when I had my thyroid out (a simple thing I insisted on walking away from the
hospital from within hours of waking up), it changed me fundamentally; I had lost that pep in my step from it.
I disagreed at the time, but turns out she was dead right.

Prayers for you @Hemi2Much for a clear path to health!
(You'll be amazed how much of that scar disappears over time :) )

:praying: Dammit, I hate seeing anyone else go through this sort of crap, God love her.... :-(
Big prayers for your wife (and you!) - that's about as serious as can be. Give it hell!
