CELL PHONES...Are They Really That Necessary???

Well, far too many wouldn't be able to order and pay for stuff without their cell phone. They also wouldn’t know how to communicate with others without the ability to text. In addition, they wouldn’t know how to get anywhere without directions from their phone, even if they’ve driven the same route dozens of times.
This is true BUT if things go the other way technology wise, which they are more likely to do, these kids will thrive……leaving the old folks in the dust….sucking hind tit.

I'm still waiting for the day when all of the satellites up there are put out of commission when a massive Solar Pulse Wave hits them from the sun, which is possible. Then what? Plan B? What would that be? I know I will survive. Can you imagine the world without INFLUENCERS!(being sarcastic here) I love asking the younger generations about what would they do should something like this should ever happen. They don't know.:steering:
I’ve been more than ready for the collapse for a long time. It can’t get here soon enough.

Most can’t even read a map.

Useful idiots. Technology is the ruin of mankind.

The only reason that this old man has a cell phone was in the past, AT&T informed me that they weren't going to be servicing land line telephones anymore, where i live.
Had no choice in getting one.

I own a landline, much to my providers dismay, as they have to maintain the line then. Laws about landline phones are OLD, and hold the providers accountable, mostly to do with emergency services liability etc. You can report the provider to the Feds if you really want to. If it goes down, they send someone within a few hours to troubleshoot it. meanwhile, they offer my internet also. If that goes down, the laws are lax and they will ignore it for days at a time.... unless I call right away and tell them I am tracking the downtime because legally I do not have to pay for the missing service.

Last I checked, when cell coverage goes out the consumer is supposed to deal with it, maybe the provider will throw you a bone. might be able to call up and complain and not pay for the downtime, i am not sure. But I know they are under no obligation to fix it like a land line other than people will find a new provider(free market at work)

Landlines work during a power outage also, and you don't have to charge them lol. Hardlines are not obsolete, they are just more expensive and regulated for accountability for the providers. Maintinaing miles of line is more expensive than a single tower.
I am one of the younger guys on here as well (32) and I recently dropped my smart phone and went back to a flip phone (Much happier). leave it at home or ringer off all the time not worried one bit. But Just an FYI for those trusting landlines to work in an emergency they are removing the copper lines and replacing most with Fiber optic once that happens power loss = no phone, the copper lines for the old style landline service provide the power, fiber requires the power grid to be up and running.

I am no fan of the damned things
but I have come to appreciate one aspect of them
The camera

I have very few pictures of high school and when I first got my charger
I have no pictures of the time I painted the car or the first time I changed the engine
Now with the car in the current shape its in,
I have pictures of every step in the process and videos of passes down the track

Look at how much easier it is to reassemble something when you have a multitude of photos of disassembly

I have it mostly for AAA. All of my vehicles are 25 years and older. Called them once for the Max, twice for the '92 Dodge Church Van and once when I broke the motor in the '01 Forester.
I still have my LL because Verizon still gives me DSL! I got my smart phone when I left a message on somebody's work phone instead of texting on their personal.
Oh, and the T-Mobile advertising is BS! I live in an area that can be a bit of a dead zone. When they wanted to put a tower in back of the EMT station, NOT IN MY BACKYARD! But, but .......
And, yes, all I want to do is throw it out into the middle of the street and let a big truck run over it!

I still have LL but its not being maintained any longer because governments says Verizon doesn’t have to. All you have to do is look at the state of disrepair in Pa at phone poles and lines to know its true. I use my cell for my computer to search for parts and contacts. I hate how unreliably it us for voicemails and receiving calls. I have to tell people to text me if their call goes straight to my voice mail. PITA My phone seldom rings. I would like to see cell phones disabled if moving that would stop all this crap.
