Summit windage tray

I use them on both my 440s. I like them and will continue to use them unless quality issues stop me. Its easier to install as well because of the integrated gasket. BTW, there are a few posts on these trays. All positive if memory serves me correct.

No problems using factory pan?
 
I'm on my second Summit tray/gasket deal. This time around I filled in the dimples on the pan rail with ultra-gray, let it cure before installing, and it's still leak-free. I used a straight-edge (in this case an old credit card) to squeegee the rtv flat with the pan rail.
I do smear a thin film of Permatex #2 on both sides of the tray's sealing ribs.

I have both permatex aviation sealant and high tack sealant. Would they be a suitable replacement for #2? I have way too many rtvs and sealants don’t want to add another to the collection if I don’t have to. lol
 
I just purchased one of these trays after reading about it in another thread. Summit Racing SUM-G2339 Summit Racing™ Molded Gasket Windage Trays | Summit Racing I don't know what the difference is between the G2340 and the G2339. Haven't had a chance to install it yet, but I read about modifying the openings for drainback to 5/16" as suggested by the first person (a guy named Tyler) that wrote a review for the G2339 on Summit's site.

EDIT: I just checked out the two trays. The G2339 is for BB's with a maximum stroke of 3.750" with OE rods. The G2340 is for strokes up to 4.150 in.

The first time I used the integral tray/gasket I didn't fill the dimples. I did the light smear of sealer on the tray's rubber ribs and it still had some slight weeps. Not bad, but I hate any seepage so the next time I filled the dimples, leveled them off, and it's been bone dry. To answer your previous question about the other sealers, aviation sealer would be the closest to #2 as it has some 'body' to it unlike hi-tack.
 
I filled the dimples on the pan, coated the bottom of the block and the pan rails with Right Stuff. Put the windage tray up to the block, raised the pan, installed all 20 bolts finger tight. Waited about an hour, then torqued the bolts to 15 lbsft as per the service manual.
 
Im probably gonna fill the dimples with rightstuff and put a light coat of permatex #2 both sides of the gasket.
 
I have one on my 400, my only complaint other than the dimpled pan issue is you do not want to use RTV with them. I test fitted it and was concerned about the rear main seal and timing chain cover areas so I added a bit of RTV, next time I pulled the pan the RTV pulled the seal off of the tray.
