Arose extra early this AM but was light out already. Stepped outside the front door to witness a rat scurry from pet's water bowl to a hole under a nearby tree. Set a trap with peanut butter/cheese for 20 minutes while I took the Doberman out for her morning walk. Returned and trap still set and bait still in place (I figured rat would not show itself again until dark).

Rather than wait for sundown, stuck a nearby garden hose in the hole and turned up the water. About ten minutes later rat came out from the opposite side of the hole, saw me, and dropped back inside. After another ten minutes of flooding the hole, the rat exited a second time. Before I could hit it with my shovel, it slipped into a cinder block where I was able to slide a broom handle inside and send the rat to its maker. The cinder block was laying on its side when the rat hid inside (I uprighted the block after the deed was done).

That makes the third rat taken out here in the backyard that i can remember (every six months or so).

You need more snakes to balance out your habitat. I have lots I can spare.

You need a varmint rifle.
