Will Nissan survive?

I consider this very bad news for Honda shareholders and customers.
Models will be combined and a thinning of the herd. This is what happens when you deal with China. They invite you in, forcing you to work with their companies, all the while stealing intellectual properties and then squeeze them out by subsidizing their own companies. When they got caught, it was forgiven because they were an emerging economy. They've been screwing us from the beginning. I avoid anything Chinese as much as possible.

Not sure what I see as a benefit for Honda, Kind of like I seen no benefit when Chrysler rolled over for Mercedes either.

AMEN!!! For this and a million other reasons...

Dealer and part distribution network is a big deal, and in day and age, it's too costly to start from scratch.

Dealer and parts network won't have to increase much in the future. People are going to be ordering their new cars online, same as with the minimal amount of factory parts needed. What's in place for Honda now is probably going to be good enough.
I myself mistrust car dealers enough that I don't want to set foot on a lot anymore and I'm old, younger people are strictly becoming phone oriented. I waste a couple hours every few months getting the work Chevrolet serviced at the dealer, there is practically no traffic in the showroom or the parts counter and it's a fairly large community here.

Big benefit to Bob Eaton. He cashed out to the sum of 40 million dollars.

Recent travel in China I saw a lot of Chinese EV’s and there were more than a few that were better looking than anything the big 3 have. I looked at panel fit up and the interiors and they do seem well done. But who knows how good they really are. If these make their way here they would be a significant threat.

Sounds like Mitsubishi is somehow tied in with Nissan now and may be pulled into the Honda-Nissan merger. I still have a bit of trouble remembering to call them Nissan. After my 72 Datsun 1500 pickup I owned back in the 70s, Datsun still seems right to me.

I was working on a friend's newer Ram cummins , and he gets back to me, " how's the Fargo coming along?"

A guy here had 72 style Fargo logo printed up and installed on his 15ish 2500. It looks a ton better than "CRAM".

In the book "Taken for a ride: How Daimler drove off with Chrysler", it explains how Chrysler was considering merging with Nissan until the Daimler merger happened.

on news last eve: Honda Nissan Mitsubishi CEOs announcing merger. In the 80's, in the USAF in far northern Japan, we had a Nissan "Fairlady" - car names in Japan are sweet, not aggressive. A 4dr sedan, SOHC in line 6 of ? 2L. Splendid little motor car. Speed limits - on the separated superhighways - are 80kph, and all adhere. I think we also had a mid-3ngine Hi Ace van, and I see one here now and then. Change oil? lift mid seats!!

I know this is an older thread but i just wanted to say.. i'm trying to buy a frontier right now.. for a few reasons and so far their dealers are not great.. Not NEAR as bad as when i bought my last jeep (whos engine is falling apart at 30k)... that took 4 different dealers to find one that actually wanted to sell a car.

The nissan dealers aren't bad but i'm looking for a specific build and the one i was dealing with wont even tell me if they can get it without me coming down to them first... i work 70 hours a week and hate wasting time. Just talked to another dealer 10 mins ago.. "No problem.. let me get on that"

What's funny is i just had to stop typing cause she called me back already to confirm some details, it's amazing how much differently 2 dealers can treat people...

I was going to new car dealerships since before I even got a license to drive especially when the new models came out. No sales people except for one even spoke to me. The real downside was when I was 35 I still looked like a teenager and got treated like crap. One sales slob told me to go get my parents but he changed his tune when I opened my wallet to get my license and made sure he saw the green stuff. Told him too late and left. I could go on and on lol but have no idea if Nissan is going down the tubes or not. Don't know what Toyota is doing with their trucks but didn't know that a manufacturer could build one that ugly.

Toyotas til a few years ago were amazing then they went to 4cyls and i do not want a 4cyl....

This chick at this nissan dealer is awesome so far.. found one near me that has more option than i want (really hate a sun roof.. it's just asking for problems) and they are getting the price down to where it was without that option... Still 50k though....

what's insane is i just went to carvana and they are offering me 20.6k for my 2018 grand cherokee... WTF... that's insane.. i expected 13k.... I need to powerwash the coolant off the front of the engine from the weap hole that's been weaping for 2 years :)
