Sad story 1 hour ago
I was working on my faulty speedo after re-lubing everything I took my car for a test drive (speedo now worse than before)
I forgot to close the hood pins and didn’t noticed it because I was constantly looking at the speedo.
Wasn’t driving really fast and a stong wind flipped my hood off the car, smashed on the trunk and landed on the street. I screamed „FUCKKKKKKKK“
Luckily some random dude sat in his parked car next to the street- natural man instinct: we grabbed the hood on the other lane and set the pins in in not even 5 seconds.
Guy said „boy, these hoods are only common at stock car racing“
I replied „It’s an option on that car“
He said „oh cool so thats a roadrunner?“
I didn’t replied anything to that. My blood was boiling and all my nerves were tingling. I said thank you and drove the couple yards home as fast as possible. (No plates on the car)
At home I saw my story marks on the trunk and hood. Glad it didn’t cracked.
I‘ll check my hood pins twice and trippe in future.

Damn the luck. Now you have battlescars.

OW! Ouch!
It hurts, but coulda been MUCH worse.

(I once stopped a guy rolling out of the staging lanes, headed for the water box..... with none of his hairpins in place.
Once he figured out why I stopped him...... he seemed happy.)

Padam, that must be the lightest-built hood for a big charger I've ever seen. How many pins has that thing got, anyway?

I raced my 74 RR with the hood scoops out. Drove home and set them in the hood so no rain would get in there. Next day I took it out forgetting to put some nuts on them. Got on it in first gear and the scoop flew out hit the windshield with-out damaging that but dented up the trim and mangle the scoop and studs when it hit the highway. It only takes one time and you will never forget!!

It has 8, 4 in front and 4 in back. I think it could do with out the middle ones in the back, but air will get under the front for sure.
I want to put it on hinges, and eliminate the middle back ones. It's a work in progress for sure.

Its a repop my car‘s a Satellite not a Roadrunner. It had a normal steel hood when the previous owner bought it in texas

I feel sick just looking and thinking of that! When I had my lift-off hood I put springs on the pins so they would hold the hood above the fenders and cowl if I forgot to pin it.

FWIW, If there is no other latch I put the clips back into the pins when the hood is open/off. Second, I use an old hood pin for my key fob, so every time I go to start it that pin is dangling in my hand as a reminder.

Thats a great idea

You got lucky,I was expecting to see an A12 hood broken into pieces!

Here is how I raced mine… Carb was jammed up under that scoop so I figured that was the max amount of air… I have another RR hood that if I ever finish putting that car back together I will try to figure out how to cut the sides and the back and raise it about an inch trying to keep the same look..
