In 1996 the old Zorro took first place in the GTS 1 class at the Rolex 24 hour. That was the year the viper debuted. A Viper led the GTS1 from the beginning (edit: I now think I recall the V-12, 60 valve Bugatti running away for a short time at the beginning) and most of the race, but Aurora took it. Before 1996, Porsche had said they would never make a mid engine car. After facing the Viper, Porsche campaigned a mid engine car for 1997.
