The silver paint is coming off the plastic on my 64 Polara's backup light assemblies. I took the small 3/8" nuts off inside the trunk but it seems to be very firmly in place.... what other bolts or clips are holding these individual light assemblies in place? I ran searches on here but no joy...... thanks....

Do they look like these?

The entire panel needs to be removed from the car, then the individual lamp removed from the panel with Phillips screws.

I have the same project lined up and haven't done it yet, but it appears the Phillips screws are accessible through little cutouts in the corners..

Thank you.... will get started on that right away....

well the getting started right away did not happen..... but now I am ready to get going...... now trying to figure out how to remove the tail lamp assembly.... is it all from inside the trunk?

Yes inside the trunk, nuts on studs. 8 per side.

Success....... ok now to carefully strip the old paint off..... can't use anything abrasive..... got some stuff to spray on it...... thanks, 413.....

Well got that job done..... did not take before pics but you can see some of the paint flaking in the picture in the trunk in the post above..... once you get the assembly off is is fairly simple after that. I stripped the old paint with the Super Clean below. I let it soak then wearing rubber gloves worked it around then more SC.... and so on.... finally it all came off and no harm to the lens.

I had some paint on the shelf so used it.... it is a bit darker than the stock paint but this is a street car not a concours car.....

Had a few of the studs missing and some of the stock fasteners so fixed all that..... all better now..... thanks for the help folks.......

Super Clean dissolved the paint? That's pretty cool.
