Well, I finally have some progress on my car. Originally I purchased this with a 383 and a sketchy paint job. There are pics here in the forum(lost all my pics from a phone/cloud debacle)

Anywho, bought a 1977 440 complete engine from a member here.

Sent it off to Steve Nicoll Racing for a healthy street build.

440 Source stealth heads, cam, flat top pistons, Manley connecting rods, Edelbrock 440 Torker intake, TTI headers, 750 CFM Edelbrock, balanced internals.

Got all the rust fixed, new vinyl top, sound deadener and new carpet.

OG Bright Red Paint being applied.

To do: fix leak at rear of transmission (if you know you know), deeper pan, external line cooler.

Also had a tight 2500 stall built by PTC out of Alabama.

Debating on changing the 7 1/4” rear end(3:23 suregrip) for an 8 1/4” (would need a 489 chunk preferably with 3:55 sure grip)

Don’t plan to race so may leave the set up as is.

Also, will be installing the Progression Distributor I bought from a member here(seems to be a simple set up but clearance of the heads and valve covers may be an issue)

Any thoughts or advice is most welcomed.

Looking good

find an 8-3/4" (way better than a 8-1/4")
team that with that notable 489 carrier, (for an 8-3/4") shouldn't be too difficult
for a Gen 3 Charger
that 7-1/4" won't last long with all that new torque, of that new 440

good luck

I have an 8-3/4. just need a 489 carrier. Actually have a carrier with 4:11 just need a ring and pinion, bearings and brakes.

8-3/4 preferred?
to me yeah,
if it's not raced or 'beaten on' a lot, an 8-3/4" with an auto/727tf is fine

I didn't see or notice what trans you are using...

Then with a good 500+hp motor, especially if a 4 speed,
I'd go a Dana-60,
(specifically a S-60 from Strange Engineering bolt in, great prices & all new)
if you're going to be beating on it hard, want it to last
but you're in a whole nother league, in price & strength,
it'd be rare in 73 Charger
they did come in them, behind 71 440 & Hemi 4 speed cars, it was mandatory
in the muscle car era
