This is kind of a dumb question but would a leak at the 727 tailshaft seal migrate down the tailshaft and drip off the bottom of the transmission pan? Noticed a puddle of atf on the ground under the pan but i can see also see atf drips accumulating on the yoke.

Shift selector seal, it's always the shift selector seal...
My first attempt years ago to replace the selector seal went really bad!! I don't remember exactly how, but I drop the tool that pulls the seal into the transmission pan. So while lying on my back I removed all the pan bolts, but the pan was really stuck in place. I pried with a screwdriver but it wouldn't budge. My arms got tired so I took a break. As I laid there contemplating what to do the pan let loose, hit me in the face and dumped all the fluid on my head and chest!!! Embarrassing and messy!!

On my camper van, the tail shaft mount covers the small plate, that covers the clip over the bearing. It was leaking.
It was easy enough jack up the tail shaft, remove the small plate and make a new seal. My new specialty. Oil can migrate anywhere, IMO.

One of these answers from the peanut gallery is the correct one. Unfortunately, you are going to have to get under there with some brake cleaner and a rag and then start troubleshooting yourself. Just sayin.

DVW just uses RTV!
I happened to have the fuel tank sealer handy.. it's $300 a quart or so now. I drained the fluid down by putting an aquarium tube down the tip stick tube and letting it syphon and lifted the *** end of the car so the pin would stop weeping..

LOL, I've had cans in the fridge over 15 years past expiry and they still work fine!

Don, I'm chasing down what I think is a shift selector seal leak on my 727. I'm assuming this could leak either during operation or while sitting. Is that correct? After cleaning it up, it leaked like a stuck pig while just sitting a couple weeks ago. Cleaned it up again with brake fluid and it was dry for > a week while sitting. I drove it this past weekend and after putting back in the garage it's leaking again.

Odd that the leak varies. But yes shift selector will leak just sitting, especially after the torque converter drains back.
