Hello Everyone: I am Greg from Torrington, CT. I bought a 1949 Dodge Deluxe Coupe off the internet. The guy gave me a pretty good price, and now I am learning why.
The car looks great! It has a 318 cu in engine w/ a 1964 Torqueflite Tranny, mated to a 1987 Dodge Dakota rear end.
The driveshaft was totally crapped out. I have it out of the car and am trying to find a repair or replacement, but no one seems to be able to help.
The issue is the Driveshaft yoke flange that meets with the transmission; a two prong U-joint which no one seems to have ever seen or heard of.
Anyone with any kind of intelligent suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am learning more about driveshafts than ever before.
I was trying to post pictures of the driveshaft but unable to make that work. I hope everyone is well!
Greg

Pics of the driveshaft? It is probably a ball and trunnion type joint with a rubber boot covering it. They work ok but not many techs are old enough to know how to rebuild them. Here is some information about converting it to a slip yoke. Any driveshaft/powertrain company should be able to come up with the flange and slip yoke to make it happen. Convert Drive Shaft Ball Trunnion to Slip Yoke - Poly318.com

Here is a thread here about the subject. What parts are needed to convert a ball and trunnion 833 to regular yoke?

Welcome GG.

You'll need to downsize your pictures on here in order to post them. The site is temperamental about size. Just shrink the outer boarders a little.

"He said size and shrink"

My Grandparents had a 47 4 door. I think it was quite fancy, it had a radio, hubcaps, trim rings, external sunvisor . Very nice interior. When Grandad passed away, Granny offered to sell it to me. At that time I knew I would certainly abuse it, so my cousin got it. It was actually a giveaway to keep in the family.
Grade 12 graduation, his class went had a beach party , he left the keys in the car. Time to go home car was gone. There were a few Indigenous reserves nearby. Car was found a few weeks later on the reserve burnt. This was 1964 and the car had less than 10,000 miles, never winter driven kept up on blocks inside.

Seems like an old story where when you give someone something, there's no appreciation for it, so carelessness prevails.
It sounds like a it was a beautiful car and well kept by your grandparents.
My older brother got my grandfather's car when he passed; a 1964 Galaxie 500. Turned it into garbage within 6 months.
Went from a beautiful pristine Galaxie to a non-running vehicle. Here's to better days and fun running vehicles!

My cousin was not a car guy, and never dreamt someone would steal something that old. He was very unacquainted with car things.
Can only say he was too trusting.

Welcome from Alabama, great looking Mopar from the year I was born.

UPDATE: Hello All! I hope everyone is doing well. So I took my driveshaft to O'Reillys yesterday and everyone there conversed and decided they had no clue as to what to do. Fun to see the looks on the young employees faces. So the person in charge gave me two names to follow up with. CT Driveshaft in East Hartford, CT and a company called Fleetpride in Waterbury, CT......CT Driveshaft wasted a tremendous amount of my time and no solution. Next, I called Fleetpride. I was referred to a gentleman named Todd. Todd said just bring in your driveshaft. I stated I had info from this site explaining how to convert the whole process and could I email him. He said forget all that and just get down there and he would take a look. When I arrived he said put the drive shaft down and come with me. He showed me his computer and on it was a kit on Ebay that I could order and do the repair myself. The kit included everything. Then I asked him.....is the pin supposed to be removed? Yes! He took my driveshaft and for the next 15 minutes banged away until the pin was finally out. He used his major league torch three times and banged it with a 3 pound hammer 120 times. The pin dropped to the ground. Alleluia! I tried to pay Todd $50, but he refused. He said I am just trying to help You. This is the kind of situation that restores my faith in the human race. God Bless Todd! The kit I ordered off Ebay for $109.00 has all the parts required for a successful rebuild. If anyone else is in need of a kit they have 5 more for sale; Roberts Motor Parts, Inc. in West Newbury, MA.
