Looking for recommendations on refurbished power steering gearboxes that fit my 66 Belvedere II. If anyone has had good luck with any specific companies I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Steer N Gear used to be the best for a rebuild, but recently quality has slipped. You may want to consider a Borgenson upgrade. They are a sponsor of this fine web site.
So far my Steer and Gear box I purchased last year is doing fine. But definitely some unsatisfied folks as of late. My other Plymouth has a Firm Feel box from about 25 years ago that has also held up fine, not sure about how they are viewed these days.

Do you have to shorten the steering column for the Borgeson boxes?

The answer depends on what you want from the car. A quality stock rebuild from Steer and Gear or Firm Feel will return the unit to like new condition. Keep in mind though that like new means like THESE were when new. In short, the Mopar power steering setup was over boosted and feels sort of like tires on wet ice. That was how they were because it was what the public seemed to want. GM cars were like that too. Nowadays, many of us are used to feeling a bit more resistance from the wheel when turning the wheel in modern cars. When you steer an old car with power steering, it feels a lot different. If you like that, a stock rebuild is right for you.
No. If you buy a kit from BAC, the kit includes a new hybrid type coupler that makes the swap a bolt in deal. The Borgeson unit is actually shorter, smaller and lighter than any Mopar power steering unit. The hybrid coupler is longer to allow a stock steering column work by simply changing the coupler.
Thank you for the faith but I’m no different than anyone else. I have only done two Borgeson swaps but have a bit of hands on experience with Mopar steering boxes. I pulled a Firm Feel stage 3 from my red car in 2022 to swap to a Borgeson and am quite happy with it. The Borgeson weighs 12 lbs less and has slightly higher effort to turn than a stock unit. It has a 14 to 1 ratio, the stock one is supposed to be 15.7 to 1.

A firm feel stage 3 would not require the same steering wheel effort as a stock power steering gear.
