Which solid state regulator for a single field?

So took my car for a test drive.. heard a belt squealing which it has never done and notice the amp gauge is pegged.. made it back home without the battery exploding (had that happen once) yanked the NOS mechical regulator i had put on and put the stock 62 ok.. charges perfect but has a slight issue of letting out a lot of smoke.. so it's almost dead but good for the test..

I saw there are SS regulators that look stock also read that some do 16v instead of 13-14.. I am mainly posting to see if anyone has a link to one that work properly? or they trust that has worked for them?

alt is new and don't want to change it.. or cut any wires if i can help it.. none cut in 63 years.. wanna try to keep it that way
 
Maybe check the contacts on the mechanical regulator and see if they're stuck? I have a solid state 69 regulator replacement on my car for over 10 years, no name on it. Bought it at Carlisle long ago.
 
It's not the battery you needed to worry about, it's the wiring catching fire. Next time put your headlights on high beam and many times that'll kick the regulator back to normal.

Have a battery explode then say don't worry bout it :) And yeah i'm gonna check the wiring over, especially to the gauge.. read they can melt pretty easily. New regulator on it's way.
 
I converted my ‘68 Satellite wagon to electronic ignition back in the 00’s and rewired it for the ‘70 electronic regulator. I also added the dual field alternator. It wasn’t that hard to do. Not for the originazi’s though…

Btw… the FSM’s schematics suck. They don’t show a lot of important ground points. A major one being the voltage regulator.

have done it in the past also.. just don't want to on this car.. new regulator should fix it fine..
 
Make sure your new regulator has a good ground.
 
Looks nicer also. Watch the pilot size come in all different ones. I use the 1/4 alot on ECU's

I put the $16 one in my ‘68 Satellite 4 door 383. It still has points (easy to service on the Big Block), and a dual field alternator that I jumped one terminal to ground. I never checked the voltage though. The lights don’t seem too bright.
