I see where someone just released a detailed 18th scale model of that car, but I have owned motorcycles that cost less...

Quite possibly; I was never into 'cruiser/customs' or jap street bikes, but have seen thousands and had friends that had them. Were not those called KZ 500/whatever "LTDs" or similar?

EDIT - sent the pic to a friend who is pretty knowledgeable on things from japan with two wheels and he contends that the bike in the image is most likely Yamaha "XS-whatever-size Special" as far as he can tell; says the engine looks pretty "Y" as opposed to "K"...

That would be my guess as well (Yamaha). The tailight is what makes me think Yamaha special.
