Bought a 70

20 or so years ago I managed a production shop. Learned an immense amount there watching the techs. Sometimes we would get "train wrecks' in, jobs with an immense amount of fixable/non total loss damage. The main guy, Bill[ smart, talented mofo] would do like you. Get all of the pieces in play, fitted up etc. If there needed to be an additional sheet metal pull on the upper structures to get stuff lined up, do that too. Once it all looked good, pull some of the pieces off and start welding. There were some horror stories we heard about caused by other shops where the tech would just start welding pieces on before fitting all in place first. What a disaster. Leaks, fit issues etc.

And when the sparks fly it will be right. There is a reason you’re doing this car for me and watching it come together is amazing.

another day at the office
Thanks for sharing all the pics and tips! My rusty pile O charger needs all of this too, and more. I have built a few airplanes, so fitting up the entire body before riveting it all together is second nature that is very useful in thinking my way through the procedure.

Update on the engine. The block checked out good at my local machine shop so I loaded it up last night along with the heads and roller rockers and headed up to North Carolina to HP Engines. Met with Hollis for a while and came up with a game plan. It will be a 432 stroker full roller and he will dyno it. Will run exhaust manifolds, CH4B intake and an AVS2 800 carb. We have not decided on the cam yet but it will likely be one of the Hughes smaller rollers. Very knowledgeable Mopar engine builder, a fantastic shop and great guy to talk to.

Home come the post had to come out Mark? By the way, I see your doctor uses the fancy yellow surgical tape.

the factory obviously had the floors together before installing the post........ I thought I might be able to slide the pan in thru the windshield opening, but my tape measure told me not to bother.

time to start welding this thing back together........and I have the wind at my back :steering:
