State farm has decided to not renew my policy because of non running vehicles and roof shingles.
Started working with a roofer and my agent said I could get a 30 extension, ok. " As for the rest of the items they need to be disposed of, removed from the property or placed under view from satellite".

Has anyone else heard of this?

Two of my friends have had homeowners insurance cancelled after a drone flyover and photos. Both were cancelled due to "excessive automobile related activities and parts".

I asked my agent about this and he said it's becoming standard procedure to fly over a drone and collect photos. He gave me an example of a trampoline in a backyard causing a cancellation.

Perhaps Hagerty will get into Classic Car hobby homeowners insurance?

Big brother and their "tearless retina"

Apparently Judas Priest was way before their time:
(I loved this song)

Up here in space
I'm looking down on you
My laser's trace
Everything you do
You think you've private lives, think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape, I'm watching all the time
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye
Always in focus
You can't feel my stare
I zoom into you
But you don't know I'm there
I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye
Electric eye
In the sky
Feel my stare
Always there
There's nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye
I'm elected electric spy
I'm elected
Protective
Detective

Insurance companies are getting more greedy, but conversely more people are making fraudulent claims.

It's a no-win situation.

more people are making fraudulent claims.
Agree, apparently it's so common in NY they have ads all day stating it cost each of us over $900/year.

Whatever happened to honesty and integrity.
The honest people keep working and paying...

I don't recall ever making a claim.
I've probably paid my insurer over $80,000 or more.

Insurance companies here are crying because people are putting in fraudulent claims.

Apparently the old "I've paid into this for umpteen years, so I'm getting something back now" excuse is not valid or justified.

It's common here too, all the lack of forest floor care, logging moratoriums
(Govn. Mandates) & the fire/s crap (PG&E power company, negligence)
has them doubling or tripling after the town Paradise, burned to the ground
&/or people can't pay, get on the state **** plan
Mine dbl'd after the Rim fire a couple years back here
like 50 miles as the crow flies in Yosemite.

I upped my deductible from $0 to $1,500 & got it almost back to what it was
with all kinds of lawyer-ese BS written in it, car storage under cover or in a garage
& I have gravel all around my house
huge firebreak total approval from the FD & a fire resistant 50 year comp roof...
All That;
Got it down a bit, what it was prior to NewSCUM being the Govn.
& the Ca. insurance racket/policies, constantly going up, it all went crazy in costs,
especially rural property...
Example;
State Farm one of IF NOT the biggest in the nation, pretty-much pulled out of most of Calif.
we haven't had State Farm for over 20 years now, very few still have it
We all had it for 30 prior to them canceling US, never any claims either,
they just pulled out...
I had them since I was like 15 years old, till 45...
(I'm 66 in a couple weeks)
Now all my stuff id from AAA (since 2005), it's better but still too expensive...

I can use their Towing & DMV services too, easier
almost makes it worth it, not standing in lines at the DMV

especially since we've never had a claim, ever

They are flying drones over everyone that they insure thesedays. They told my neighbor he had to fix a missing brick on his steps or they would not renew his policy. A woman in Boston said that they made here replace her roof or they would cancel her policy. The did my house last week. The roofs are good, but I have some cars and parts in the yard,I might be hearing about that soon. I didn't sign up for an HOA,I signed up for homeowners insurance. I have never filed a claim in 41 years of having homeowners insurance.

I regularly get flyers on my door for “free” roof inspections for possible hail damage.
We had a bad storm in the area last summer which fortunately the worst of passed not far south of me. We just had some pebble sized hail and power out about 12 hours on my block.
A few weeks later I was driving to an appointment and got a call from a number I didn’t recognize, but I answered thinking it might be about my appointment.
It was a guy wanting to inspect my roof for damage and he was pretty relentless not taking no for an answer, even though I kept saying my house was north of where the storm hit bad and not damaged, I finally hung up on him.
I’ve had my house 35 years and it’s only in the last 5-10 I get solicited about roof inspections for storm damage. Obviously these people know how to work the system and get claims approved. And that certainly contributed to today’s raising rates and insurance companies more prone to paring down their number of policies.
A few years ago a cheapskate buddy of mine had storm chasers knock on his door, inspect his house, and help him make a claim. He couldn’t have been more excited that he got a new roof, siding, gutters and a garage door for the cost of his deductible. Listening to him boast made my BP going up knowing I’m probably going to pay some of the costs of his home improvement with higher rates!

Cancelled, yes but not because of an issue or claim we had. Because the parent company isn't providing insurance in my state and a few neighboring states. Apparently too many high dollar claims due to tornado and derachio damage. In fact we were working on inspection information for the new company just a few min. ago.

Not cancelled, but company wrote the policy excluding the roof because it's 25 years old. Another company refused to write a policy due to the old roof.

Mine Doubled, so I went shopping and got a Policy that was a third what of the updated price.. Thanks for pushing me to find a new Insurer..

But, we have a Cabin in So Cal.. Can't get a policy except through the State and you don't even want to know the price.

Allstate doubled mine, and more than doubled my car insurance premiums. Apparently they are doing this all over..... and it's not just Allstate. This is after continually raising premiums ever since the end of Covid. Why? "Inflation and the cost of labor and materials" is the canned answer. The real story is that we are covering the claims in other high-risk areas of the country because those state won't allow the insurance companies to raise rates to reflect the real risk and cost of insurance in hurricane and tornado alley and fire-prone and flood-prone areas.

So far, I have been lucky where I live. We are prone to wildfires, but for the most part, so far, so good. I have had Liberty Mutual for my homeowners, and the premium is paid through my escrow account. I hate to say this, having been in the insurance business for a large number of years, but it is nothing more than a legalized Ponzi scheme, and they make more money than is available out there just for the promise of helping when one suffers a catastrophic loss. Not true anymore as they take the money and then reneg on that promise. Subsequently, they then pull out of doing any business in said state. I have raised my detectable as high as I can just to get my rate down, which has helped some, but the more they want, the less I am able to continue doing business with them. The same holds true for auto insurance, but that is another can of worms.

My suggestion is this...Start shopping around, as that is really the only way to secure coverage these days. Assume some financial responsibility by taking higher deductibles and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate!!! OK is a tough state to get insurance because of its central proximity to Tornado Alley, and it is prone to severe wind damage throughout the state. Not a win-win situation as I know you do not want to not have it when ya need it...Good luck in that quest...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

And, unfortunately, we are all in this situation!!! The reason being is that 90% of insurance companies are "Mutual Companies," which means everyone who has insurance with them shares in the mutualness equally when losses are tallied, and the ratio to premium income is way less than the outgoing of claims monies!!! Sucks I know but their term for it, is "Loss Ration." cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

We have private house insurance here. Our rates are calculated on the number of claims. Fortunate to be on top of the scale, premium might go up due to all of the devastation of wild fires, three people have been charged with arson. Individual situations and in another case a person started a fire at an airport. Not surprised that the names of the supposed perpetrators was not disclosed. They showed a video. Not surprised that
no one has come forward to identify him.
Cars and parts.
Our city has a bylaw stating that unlicensed vehicles cannot be visible to the public. A friend covered his with a tarp. They said it had to be in a building. He put up a portable shed.
We have a government run licensing issuer. We can get a package policy on the vehicle along with regular insurance. With our camper van I put a package policy on it which covers liability and other things. So I cancel the driving plates. City came and told me had move it or they would possess it. I explained that I was in complete compliance with the provincial laws. The van was technically registered with SGI. I was polite to the obnoxious arrogant city employee through all of this.
