Over a decade ago, I was talking to a coworker in his office and noticed this shifter sitting on his table, that I recognized immediately. This guy had a 30-something hot rod so I asked him what the shifter was for, because it was similar to the one in my '70 Charger. He said a friend gave it to him and asked if I wanted it? Absolutely!

Now that I'm restoring Grendel's interior, I'm debating whether I should replace the original beige ball knob with this chrome knob; it has very minor pitting but it just looks classier than the beige ball. Something about that beige ball doesn't match anything in the interior. If I do the swap, I'd only swap out the knobs, my original shifter assembly is cleaner and smoother than this one.

So what B-body had this particular chrome knob?

Knobs come in all shapes and sizes. Some knobs are small, some knobs are huge. It all depends on one's particular taste. When it comes to knobs, I always say it's what you like and what is comfortable in your hand.

My 69 Sport Satellite came with that shifter. It is a November 68 build car. I prefer it over the plastic knob that followed.

I’m sorry to have to tell you that the shifter is specific to that shaft, and it will not thread on a 4 speed shaft, it has no threads of its own. That handle slips over the shifter shaft, the button threads onto the lockout cable and you spin it until it is flush with the top of the handle, then you tighten the set screw. So unless you use the entire assembly, it will not play well with others. That is also quite common in A body cars as well.

Thanks guys. I also prefer the chrome one to the beige plastic one. I need to have it polished now...
I think you should try some 0000 wire wool to polish your know. Go in dry....no lubrication.

Glad to see I'm not the only perv that immediately went into the weeds on this one. Other people's shafts and knobs just don't work for me.

Well since this is going very badly I will say it
That is a 69 shifter in the picture
( earlier ones had the place to mount the little switch on the side for the reverse lights and this one does not )
