Thanks, I didn't check the forum all weekend but I discovered exactly that. The chrome older-year knob doesn't thread onto the '70 Charger shifter shaft deep enough, which means the chrome button won't depress properly. The button spring inside the chrome knob is also a much bigger diameter than the spring under the beige knob/black plastic button shifter.I’m sorry to have to tell you that the shifter is specific to that shaft, and it will not thread on a 4 speed shaft, it has no threads of its own. That handle slips over the shifter shaft, the button threads onto the lockout cable and you spin it until it is flush with the top of the handle, then you tighten the set screw. So unless you use the entire assembly, it will not play well with others. That is also quite common in A body cars as well.
