I recall seeing a thread somewhere, but can’t find it after a search indicating that a certain Ford rocker panel clip will fit in 1970 GTX or sport satellite rocker molding. Does anybody recall this and if so, what Ford clip was that?

thanks MF

70 Sport Satellite has narrow rocker molding standard on all cars.
70 GTX and road runner has wide rocker trim as an option and bare is standard.

So they don't use the same clips.

I have a friend with a 70 Sport Satellite and he has not yet found any rocker trim clips that will work.

Would like to hear about alternatives for the Sport Satellite

Thanks for confirming! Bummer I just received my NOS clips today! Sure enough they are for the wide “standard” GTX/RR not the narrow Sport Satellite. See picture. I am at a loss as well. There were only 7,000 some odd 70 Sport Satellite’s made and not many survivors. It’s more rare than the 70 GTX’s.

Hey @dadsbee Wayne any idea on where I can find the narrow rocker moulding clips for my Satellite?

You could make up something that will work,no one would see it.

Yes thanks I had to do that on my rear trunk chrome. It worked better than the stock clips! But yeah I will have to see if Wayne has any ideas. He like me and many of us spent a lot of time hunting for parts. A significant amount of time actually…

I know that feeling owning 1 year only cars.

Not sure. The problem is this a blind mate connection. This means no access from behind or anywhere. It’s a press fit. Maybe I can 3D print something. I just don’t like PLA and I can’t print nylon. Also it’s a snap fit on the moulding side and thats real tricky to tolerance up.

could you slide the head of something like this into the trim? oversize heads custom cut to fit?

drill the holes to a size that isn't too tight for removal.....

I called the “Mopar Shop” and spoke to Ed. He is searching for me as well.

I don’t think by itself that will work as it has to lock into the rocker moulding as well as the hole.
I was thinking of a sheet metal piece that slides in the rocker moulding channel and welding a door panel clip to it. It’s strong and easy to fab and all metal and snap fits.

If I cut a piece of sheet metal one and three-quarter inch, then it should slide in the channel and lock in. And with a clip like this, it should be press fitted into that hole and lock in as well. This would be a very simple one cut one weld for each part. heck I could even fab them and sell them lol

How wide is the trim? This clip is for 1.25-1.75, they make these in varying sizes... To install you put the clip in and rotate it till it grabs, the little plastic tail is flexed to snap in and lock the clip... The stud that snaps into the body of the car remains centered as the clip is rotated to lock it in the trim... They work really well, they are semi universal, once installed they are invisible so the fact they don't look like the OE clip doesn't really matter...

Pardon Our Interruption...

That might fit as the width is approximately 1-3/4”however that taper pin will not positively lock. It’s a jam fit and might come loose with vib etc.
