I took the top of my collapsible steering column apart and now can't get it to go back together. I removed the snapring and got the top piece to come off and removed the signal switch. Now,when I try to put it back on it won't go down far enough to reinstall the snap ring. I'd say about 3/4 to 1" needs to go down.
 
Ok, so I don’t know if this is true for the B body column, but the 67 A body column has two square nuts that sit on either side and are a pita to get where they need to go. And you can’t really see them. I flipped one over and they both fell out and I was beyond stumped until I cracked another to look at

Yes,I have them as well but i blieve they only hole the pice thaat goes around the steering shaft. I miztakenly unscrewed them and mine fell out as well so I put them back in when I removed the top piece. Still don't know how to put my column back together
