Swapping a factory rallye dash into my 69 “Wanna Bee” Coronet. Been about 25 years since I pulled one, and that one I did with the windshield in place. Finally got around to pulling the dash out of my 69 today. Did it with the glass in place, and it only took me a little less than 2 hours from start to finish. I cut the excess length of the bolts off, and then I modified a 3/8 wrench to tuck under the weatherstrip. When the rallye dash goes in, the u-nuts will be flipped, and the proper length bolts will go in from underneath, and will hide under the weatherstripping. Just an idea for those wanting to pull their dash.

I understand the flipping of the u-nuts and installing the bolts from bottom up. I just can't picture removal of the original bolts under the weatherstrip. I'll have to try it next time

My weatherstrip was replaced when I did the glass a while back, so it’s nice and pliable. I put a trim tool under the lip of the rubber that overlaps the screws to keep access to them with the wrench. Once the screws were out of the nuts, I grabbed them with long needle nose. My car is a lifelong AZ car, so I’m sure they played into it. Another way to break the screws loose is to grab them underneath with small vice grips. Once they’re loose, get em with a wrench from above. Didn’t even take me two hours from when I disconnected the battery to lifting the dash out of the car.

Where do you insert the wrench and what modification was made?

How much of a turn can you get once inserted?

I need to do this on a 67.

I believe they are similar if not the same.

All I did was heat a cheap 3/8 wrench with a torch and bend it about 25 degrees on the open end. The wrench was inserted under the weatherstripping “flap” that covers the dash bolts. I was able to get a little over 1/4 turn at a time.
