Notice the "squared off" back end for better aero.
Valance, 1/4 extensions, bumper all tweaked a little, not to mention the lip spoiler.

The alignment looks fine.
The tail end of the car is shorter as noted by how large the taillight panel is. As the panels taper from the wheel opening to the end, by shortening the car, the taillight panel section would be larger.

Could they maybe "reverse (un)sectioned" the rear quarters and giving it the same look/shape and a taller taillight panel?
Shortening the rear gives little if any aero advantage in most cases unless they extended the nose the same amount, which does.

Speaking of alignment, LF seems to have a smidgen of positive camber, being a circle track car.
 
Er, no.
The aluminum panel is larger because it covers a lot of the bumper. The length of the car is stock, including the area from the rear glass to the spoiler. They had a body length template running down the middle of the car.

Wow that's one tall 1/4 panel. The STP logo with the red/white/blue color breaks seem to help hide it.

The way the rear wheel well is formed, it almost looks to have fender skirts.

He's looking sideways because that whole body is mounted sideways rotated on the center ;) I think the rockers are moved down in back so you don't notice it as much. The front tip of the hood looks 1 1/2 feet lower than the back of the decklid.

Richard is tall, but I bet Jeff Gordon would have a tough time closing the decklid on that car. That thing looks sky high!
 
When Petty was running a Buick they found that it was faster without the rear bumper cover.
So they wound barely attach the bumper cover and then have a teammate "accidently" hit him from the
rear and knock it off.
I would think that a lot of slight body modifications were done back in the day and lead to the body templets that we see today.
 
My thinking, Nascar has always been at least one step behind on rule enforcement. Back in those days, a car only had to measure up where the template touched, everywhere else was free game it seems. Outsmarting the template was a piece of cake.
 
You really are going to argue that the trunk area on the first car is stock ?

The bottom car looks at least 4 inches longer. If you don’t know how much four inches is, ask a Ford guy.
 
The rear quarter panel tire upper overlap is significantly different between the shared pics #43.
