Odd looking Petty Charger at Daytona 500 photo!!

Naw, no arguing from me!
I know the difference in appearance is because of the lens on the camara taking the bottom photo!

I've owned a few 73-74 Chargers. Nice rides!
As far as "4 inches", I'm

ummmm.... creative body interpretations didn't just go away in the 70's...

Is just the pic angle/optical ilusión guys. We have seen dozens of of pics of these cars running and JUST WITH THIS PIC we are debating about the lenght of the car? Doesn’t make sense.

If you see at the springs rear shackles or hangers (what you call them) … FOR ME it’s at the same location than stock, in relation with the rear valence

They moved suspension mounts all around with these cars. The shackle position is not a reliable point to argue the matter.

NASCAR driver Richard Petty pilots his No. 43 car on February 15, 1975 The Charlotte News

I keep my opinion… dozen of these cars pics while racing and no one shows or noticed a shortened car anywhere. We are talking about this just by a single pic on a weird angle or ilusión.

Keep in mind that at this point in time, Petty had super speedway, speedway, short track and road course cars.
All purpose built for one type of track. And back up cars too!!

Either the race car was shortened from the rear wheel opening to the bumper or the trunk was raised. Look at how much thicker it looks at the very end of the car.

Back raised!
Lower parts have added metal, especially over the rear wheel!

Well, we are talking about basic oval circuits… not like F1 with diff kind of circuits everywhere and higher top speeds.

I don’t think a small oval circuit diff between them would require a totally modified car on body.

Flared from door to rear tire opening.

Here, Petty had a narrowed bumper.
Compare the fenders between the two cars.

F1 got teams from the beginning. Not personal teams thought but by brands. Then along the years very pilot got a team to adjust each car, down the brand cover of course.

Reply #7 here suggested a shortened rear to account for a perceived taller rear taillight panel.
Reply #8 here suggested metal added to heighten/extend vertically rear quarters including the rear taillight panel.

Camera distortion in a few pics combined with askew pic angles have muddied this seemingly circular discussion.
It is a bit pointless IMO to reference different cars raced of the same style over different years to confirm/explain body tweaks as I am sure aero discoveries where constantly evolving and rule enforce also was likely improving.

The rear is not shortened.
Metal was added, as I stated, in the photo that I posted.

Neither enlarged… my comment was a joke since is just an optic ilusion by the pic.

I understand some tweaks to the body, but not THAT kind or size of body/shell mods
