A supervisor from the company I worked for sent him to China. He was at a subsidiary there for a month lost 30 lbs. Restaurants had meat hanging and you picked what you wanted. Made him go on a diet. Recently sent one of my engineers to China instead of me. He got food poisoning and ended up 3 days in the hospital there. Had to pay. $225.00 USD. He said they took great care of him too. That was less expensive than the hotel room too.

There was that and the company cafeteria.

Here they had whole chickens in large kettles soaking in the hot sun, covered in flies. I ate vegan that trip.

Then take two Snickers bars and two cans of V8 from my hotel room refrigerator bar. Ate the Snickers and V8s daily for lunch as there was no sanitary place to eat in the industrial zone. Got back late every night to the hotel and had peanuts and beer as dinner from my hotel room refrigerator bar.

That’s about when I first started going there. Shanghai airport was still a military base. Chinese fighters on the tarmac. Then had to walk a gauntlet of Chinese soldiers once walked down the stairs off the UAL 747.
So different now. I do 3-4 trips a year to China.
