Any Jeep folks here?

LOVE my TJ. Worlds better than my old YJ. The TJs coil spring suspension is light years better than the old leaf sprung YJ! And the hardtop makes it a real car, not a tent on wheels! Summer though...the hardtop hangs in the garage next to the doors and it lives in the garage totally open. Like a motorcycle, but without the helmet and riding gear. Well... and slow. But still a blast.
Mine ran pretty good. Not like a bike though but the 4.0 engine impressed me. Also, like you say, the coil suspension is MUCH better!! I've had some experience with this vehicle over the years since Jerry bought it new back in 98. At one point he went on a information gathering expedition to the south pole (at least that's what he said it was) and I took care of his bike and the Jeep for the time he was gone and that was a while. I think he bought the bike used and I found out that it needed trailing arm bushings really bad on my first ride as the bike was very noticeably swimming. The Jeep on the other hand still felt good when it became mine even with 250k miles.

Something worth mentioning I did to my 77 CJ-5 with the 258. Some years ago I took the single barrel YF off and put a weber 32/36, I don't remember why. I probably thought it was cool.
Recently I got tired of the laziness of the acceleration so I put a Carter bbd two barrel. Wow what difference everywhere. It has easier start, smoother idle and cruise plus better acceleration.
Figured I might tell you guys about it in case you have one.
Another good carb to use is a motorcraft 2 barrel from late 60s early 70s 289/302. They have small butterflies and only about a dozen moving parts. They do require an adapter to bolt on, but they work well Offroad.

Doing mantainence now as winter is coming. Got a perfect 94 zj ( in 2000 w/144k) with 240k as a winter beater for the pass.
They salt so much, its crumbling apart. Breaks my heart as we love the awd on the snowy highway.
Got a clean 96 obd ll to replace it. Everyone says, get something newer! I would, but I don't want to pay out to have the state ruin it. I've looked under their cars. Good thing they trade in.
Mufflers every 2 years. Radiators corrode to the point of no fins, thankfully they are cheap. Brake rotors rust away where pads don't touch. Rust everywhere. Rear reinforcement collapsed standing on bumper.
I don't know how you midwest guys do it?

So they made it good for you? My riding buddy is one of the big bosses there I can let him know. I used to live close to where they make most of there parts. San Luis Obispo.

Yeah I had to search awhile to find a local Jeep since high desert they don't rust here. My coworker bought one from Washington and its got rust all over but looked so clean outside he fell in love haha. brake lines look like solid rust, scary. We are building new ones at work here.

So Jeep question.

Michelle is...well, lets face it, she's damned short. She loves her Wrangler TJ, but has to scoot the seat all the way forward so she can work the clutch. Looking online I'm finding all sorts of pedal extenders that have brackets and adjustments and levers and crap...and I don't want all those (potential failure points) moving parts.

I just want a block.

If I could weld, this would be done already.

Anyone ever done a pedal extension before? Any tips or ideas?

And no, I'm not doing Short Round shoes...or a 2x4 on the pedal....

Those are the brackets and adjustments and stuff that I don't like. Come loose, get stuck, fall off...

What I'd like to do is, make 2 pieces of metal the shape of the pedal face under the rubber pad. Cut a piece of square tubing about 2" long, and weld it between the 2 plates. Put the OEM pad on one, and bolt the other one to the factory pedal. Done. No moving parts, nothing to work loose...

I should have learned to weld.....

I understand just an idea that you could improve on or have someone weld up for you.

I may cardboard-template it and give it to michelle. She works with a bunch of shop guys who can weld... or, I could just make the 3 pieces (I have square stock and flat stock; I can cut and grind and shape, just not burn it together).

If I do, I'll be sure to post it here...

I finally decided to buy a new Jeep Gladiator after my wife’s little Scion XB was totaled last September. She was rear ended and the idiot rammed into her 3 times. No one was hurt and she kept the brakes on and didn’t hit the car in front of her.

I like the leg room in this Gladiator because that’s always been a concern for me. I have looked at some Jeep forums but haven’t joined any yet. I always said if I buy a Jeep it will be new not used.

Not by a long shot if he contacts me I will tell him the story
But thanks anyway

I've been thinking about treating the insides of my TJ frame rails. I know about the oil spray people (NAOU or something?)...has anyone done a DIY spray setup, maybe with an old garden sprayer or something? I have plenty of used motor oil....
