I recently installed a new engine in my 1966 Charger along with a slightly looser converter (2200 stall). I have been experiencing some overheating issues and I am thinking about installing a transmission cooler to take some load off the radiator. There seem to be three types, tubes with fins, plate type, and even one that looks like a heat sink. My Charger has factory air so the real estate is limited and I don't want to attach it directly to the condenser. I'm looking for something that I can mount to one side of the central support brace. Any ideas or thoughts on which works best?

If you don't have 3.23 gears you might want to consider that option first.

Still running the 2.94's Don. That definitely would make the converter work harder.
I don't thinks so Dave, if the engine is spinning faster then the converter tends to run above the stall speed so less slip driving at lower speeds.
You get out of the hole quicker in 1st gear with a heavy car as well.
It just turns over a bit more at highway speeds but I don't find it objectionable.
I think a 3.23 is a better fit for your setup.

The plate style are nice, but likely going to be harder to install how you want.
My '71 Charger has the tube/fin type (sort of narrow and long) that is mounted off to the drivers side of the radiator with the long part going up/down and the fittings are at the top, so made custom lines. I don't know what the heatsink looking ones are?

I put a Hayden in front of my radiator spaced out about 1-1/2" so it doesn't choke the air flow.
Plumbed it through the radiator cooler first, then to the external cooler just like Mama Mopar did from the factory!

I agree with you Don, I meant the 2.94's are making the converter work harder. One of the reasons I specified 2200 stall is that I cruise at around 2400.

I'm going to drive it a bit more to get used to it with the new engine, but at this point full throttle does feel lazy with the 2.94 gears. The part throttle response and transmission are both much better than the 361 combo.

Okay. It was just a misunderstanding in the wording.

Sounds like you want a 3.23 gear...

I have this one inline after the radiator , but do not have A/C. It's a plate style.

Thanks for the responses. I'm leaning towards the plate style. I need to do some more measurements to see how large I can go. Being a Charger I have to allow for the rotating headlight buckets as well.
