When the grill is properly cleaned BEFORE cooking, it's not a problem. Billions of grills have been cleaned this way.

Joe-Bob scraping away right next to the burger cooking, ....well you just can't fix stupid.

I heard this many years ago from an article talking about a woman who had complications from a wire that punctured her intestine.

I have a wooden scraper that conforms to the grate. It also has a nylon type bristle brush on the back, not to use on the grate when hot.

I have never, ever seen a wire from a brush stick anywhere on my grills. I cleaned them before cooking.

My Wire grille brush has a metal Scraper on the other side. I use wire brush side first while coals are getting hot and scrape with the other side.Never loose bristles. Here is a Recent Chicken.

We had a cookout many years ago and I'll never forget my neighbor's wife holding a short piece of wire in her fingers, which she felt in her mouth as she was eating a burger. I threw that grill brush away and have not used one since. Like others have said, use a wooden scraper or have a piece of foil over the grates to cook off any grease before you grill. Great PSA!!

I've posted before about wire brushes being a problem. If your careful no problem, but what if your at somebodies cookout and they aren't careful? I use a stainless pad.

I posted the video before watching it. At the end of it, he said that all it does is smear the grease around and wouldn't recommend it.

My friend and camping buddy got his grill handed down to him by his father and I don’t think it has ever been cleaned. We camp with 8 to 10 others and every morning a lot of meat gets cooked along with mostly eggs. I didn’t use to worry about it , but I sure wouldn’t mind him getting some of the blackened stuff off before he cracked my eggs on it.

No ****. I rarely clean mine. All that extra carbon and schmootz on there adds to the flavor.
