So my alternator is dead. I believe the 440 is out of a 75 motorhome. Anyways it has what looks like a 2 V groove pulley on it with only one belt attached. Is that the right alternator setup for this? I see they sell ones with 1 groove pulley too.

My '72 440 RR (no AC) had a single grove pulley alternator.

Number of groves doesn't really matter as much as alignment. So spend what you can afford. Should be #1 belt crank, water pump, alternator and 2nd belt crank, power steering. Unless you have AC, then that has to be factored in. I use a repair belt to make sure alignment is right, but a 3/8 rope works too.

Thanks! I guess I’m just trying to figure out what alternator was on the car or if it was modified (heavy duty?). Car ran great right up until it died.

WHY DID YOUR PRESENT ALTERNATOR DIE? DETERMINE THIS FIRST. it's a '72 or later square back design. Showing casting numbers of individual parts means nothing. DETERMINE the cause of failure or the replacement will fail also. Now comes the loose, corroded wires and bulkhead wire and connected grounds at voltage regulator boys. Need more specific info. Have the unit PROFESSIONALLY TESTED.....not by a auto parts store....possibly a bad diode or brush or stator windings....but not likely .....or just wholesale replace it with a one wire Powermasrer....like everyone seems to be doing...for no teason.....just my opinion.....

Thanks for all the good info! Just went over all the grounds I could find and fuses. I think I’ll replace my voltage regulator just for the heck of it. Noticed this wire connecting to the alternator was hanging on by a thread….cant seem to find or remember the exact name of what it’s called so that I can buy a new one
