My rear end has a heartbeat

Logic: what has changed since last time all was well (with no "heartbeat")?
Tires and wheels off/on the car?
There's your culprit.

Flat spots on the tyres from lack of use or lack of burnouts.

Pump up the tyres to max pressure and go for a blast down to McDonalds on the Waikato Expressway and back - problem will be solved.

You have a broken tooth in the ring gear, I have heard that sound a few times.

Hopefully not. I haven't had a chance to get to the car yet. I'll have a chance to get to the car during the week and go through the suggestions given. I will update what i find

How fast were you going in the video?

Grab the drive shaft at the rear u-joint and push up and down and in and out. You don't want any play there.

My original 8.75 in my road runner somehow had the pinion shaft come out of place and was banging the inside of the housing.

Do you want me to come on over next weekend and have a listen in person? I assume you're in South Auckland. :)

Not far from me...however putting on jack-stands will help narrow down the search. If you get an assistant to rev the car up and down gently, you should be able to trace the noise.

Just please make sure that the car is stable on the stands. I know a guy who was dragged under his Mark 3 Zephyr many years ago....on his back, and by his chin. Mind you...same guy used a set of vice-grips for a makeshift steering wheel on a gravel road.
