Clunk on moderate to hard take-off from standstill

Just because you have new motor mounts doesn't mean they are good. Waaaay back in 1970, I broke a new motor mount and can only think the new ones we have now are any better if not worse. And my engine wasn't all that strong.

I’ll recheck all 3 mounts.

My guess, left side LCA bushing or brake strut bushing?

Hah, all good. LCA and Struts are rebuilt/ new.

Holding the brakes on, while the engine is running, and moving the gear select from drive, to neutral, to reverse, and back again, a few times, can sometimes produce the sound, and if so, you may get a better idea where it comes from, without the added noise of moderate revving of the engine or road noise.

Ding ding, we have a winner. The brand new mount separated. I’ve discovered another thread that has a modification suggestion to putting a couple nuts and bolts to help prevent separation; I’m going to try that.

Thank you everyone! Super helpful as usual. It ended up being that the brand new motor mount on the driver side (less than 1000 miles) had separated. The noise I was hearing was the header flange whacking the floor board. I’m going to be replacing with another mount that includes a modification by adding a couple nuts and bolts to help prevent separation.

Running a solid mount on the left...and rubber/poly on the right and trans...DOES NOT add any significant vibration or noise. That has been my opinion and practice since it was first shared with me in 1991. But what it does do, is increase the strength and stability of the entire drive train.
