Best oil for 440.....

A friend of my brother's, who was corporate pilot for PPG (he flew Gulfstream#1 and Gulfstream #2) was a stickler for air craft maintenance, NEVER CHANGED OIL IN HIS CAR. His philosophy was oil never wears out, it just gets dirty. His fix was to change the oil filter in the car, a 401 Buick engine, ever other year, add a quart of oil.....and went down the road......until the engine started making clicking noises.....like a collapsed valve lifter. Pulling the valve covers reveled......you could not see any valve train parts at all....springs, rocker arms etc......like unmolding a jello salad.....except everything was encased in blackish sludge......it was remarkable that the engine ran at all........moral of the story......use a good oil (owners choice) and change it and the filter every 3-4 thousand miles or more often.....just my opinion of course........

I guess he should have changed the filter a bit more often. :)

My wife's kid sister took this a step further with her first car, a 1980s Toyota Celica. Never did an oil change or filter, just drove the car for 110,000 miles. No issues until one day the engine locked up. Similar result with sludge. She became a 3000 mile oil and filter advocate, after asking about my service intervals for the '62 Imperial I drove at the time.

Amsoil Signature 10/30. Coupled with EFI, zero oil consumption. 20+ years.

When I was a young puppy I worked in an engine rebuilding shop for VW. You could always tell an engine that was serviced with QS or Penns oil - they were always gummed up and dirty (didn't matter if car was services regularly). Had to put the parts in a bat for a day and then steamed cleaned them ( would never use Penn. oils in any of my cars). On the other hand the folks that used Castrol oil had engines that looked like new.

I always used this back in the day. The engine was very clean inside.
